Tom's Pool Service is one man and a route. Tom Freeman runs it himself, and by his own account he has spent about 16 years opening, maintaining and closing inground pools north of Boston. The territory is small on purpose: Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Wakefield and Stoneham. That is the shape of a seasonal owner-operator who wants his pools within a short drive — the same person handling the spring opening, the weekly chemistry through the summer, and the fall shutdown, rather than a rotating crew.
