The pool part nobody else stocks is the one this shop keeps turning up. A 2025 customer whose pump motor failed tried the three pool stores in Salem, New Hampshire, came up empty, and found what he needed here; another that year got a fitting for an older Crestwood pool he said was impossible to source anywhere else. Family Pool & Patio works out of Lawrence, Massachusetts, building custom in-ground and above-ground pools and then keeping them running — openings, closings, liners, equipment, renovations — across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The company says it began as a small local shop in 1978 and has stayed family-owned since. It also runs an above-ground specialty store at 3 Newton Junction Road in Kingston, New Hampshire, serving southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. People stay a long time. A reviewer in 2025 said they had been a customer since 1988; another in 2021 counted 38 years of walking through the door; a third has had the same "lazy L" pool installed, serviced and closed by them for more than 20 years. Across the two locations Google shows 4.7 stars from 59 ratings and 4.4 from 89, and the 36 written reviews on file run 2021 to 2026 on the same few themes: staff who diagnose rather than swap parts — a July 2026 customer describes a technician working through the whole system to find a stray gasket lodged in a return head killing the circulation — free in-store water testing with the chemistry explained step by step, and counter people who know regulars by name. Builds draw the same detail. A 2025 in-ground buyer walked through the project from the first sales meeting to the finished pool and said the whole thing went right; 2022 above-ground customers named the managers who handled permits and talked them through each stage of construction. The same names recur across five years of reviews — Ryan, Jonathan, Dave, Bob Whitney, Jershawn and JP among them. The record is not spotless. In a 2022 review, a build customer reported constant trouble after construction — an electrical fire, multiple broken pipes and poor planning around a structure — and said the company lost interest once it had been paid. A 2023 reviewer spent a stretch unable to reach anyone about a suspected leak, then updated the review: once she had a named contact, calls came back promptly and a diver checked the lines the same day. A 2022 shopper wished the store stayed open later at least one night a week. Before calling, sort out which location handles your pool. Kingston is an above-ground specialist — a 2026 in-ground owner found water testing, chemicals and equipment help there, with in-ground work running through the Massachusetts side. On a build, settle who your service contact is after the pool is in the ground.
We had a problem with the circulation in the pool. It turned out one of the heads had a stray gasket stuck in it, preventing the system from cycling the way it needs to. Mike from Family Pools did a thorough analysis of the entire system to determine the root cause of the issue and quickly get our pool back to 100%. He even cleaned the pool while he watched the pool cycle. Top notch service technician.
Family pools is the best. So professional. They did an amazing job on our pool renovation. Thank you
I'll only go to Family Pool for my family's pool!
Friendly & knowledgeable staff! Excellent prices on equipment parts. Special shout out to Ryan for helping me find the filter parts I needed and carrying my purchases to my vehicle, such a nice young man! We worked with Dave about 13 years ago for our above ground pool install- glad to see he's still leading the team at North. This store is our go to in May for Pristine Blue supplies- you won't find a nicer crew. Thanks again everyone!
These guys in Kingston are awesome! I'm a new in-ground pool owner in Kingston and while this location is exclusively an above-ground pool specialist, many of their services like water testing, chemicals, equipment, etc are still in their wheelhouse. Ryan helped us with cleaning equipment and getting stocked up with general chemicals... super nice guy and very informative. Kelly handled our chemical testing and did a great job of explaining exactly what we need to do to balance out the pool's chemicals now that its opened. Then Jim is an in-ground pool owner himself so he's been excellent for answering questions that are in-ground specific. I trust these guys fully and so far all of their help has been right on point. Again, if you need in-ground technical service make sure you reach out to their Lawrence location and I can say they have been fantastic as well! The Lawrence team service techs of Sean (spelling?) & RJ for my opening and then Mike C for our new pump installation were happy to guide me and inform me on my pool's equipment and strategy. Thank you all! We feel very lucky to have you so close by! We used your Hampstead competitor down the road when we first moved in last year, and their techs were good when we could get them, but we felt like a number when it came to calling them and getting a human to talk to was very difficult. Use Family Pools!!!
