Winters Home Services runs out of 108 School St in Watertown, taking plumbing and HVAC calls across the Boston area — a faucet that won't stop dripping, a furnace on its last legs, an AC unit that needs replacing before summer hits. The company's Massachusetts plumbing license, 15313-PL-M, is active, and its Google page carries a 4.8-star average across nearly 2,900 ratings, the kind of volume that's been building steadily since 2023. This year's reviews read like a roster of named technicians doing unglamorous work carefully: Duy Nguyen replaced shower fixtures built for a disabled family member's roll-in bathroom and added extra caulking nobody asked for; Sean fixed a leaky shower and got called the best plumber a homeowner had used in twenty years in the house; Hamza walked a customer through a boiler tune-up, then came back when the same boiler sprang a leak months later. AC replacements, furnace swaps, sink installs, and drain work follow the same pattern — technicians who explain the diagnosis and the cost before touching anything, then clean up after. Across the last six months, the great majority of the ratings are five-star, with only a handful of one-star complaints mixed in. The friction shows up around price and, more recently, around a change in ownership. A few customers say quotes ran well above competitors — one described a $2,600 estimate for what turned out to be a minor water filter leak, while others rate the same kind of job as fair and transparently priced. Winters was sold to HL Bowman, and several longtime customers describe a rockier experience since: an AI chat bot standing between them and a live person, and at least one missed appointment window on a boiler that had been installed less than a year earlier when it failed after a storm. Winters is a reasonable call for plumbing and HVAC work where you want someone who explains what they're doing and stands behind it. Get a written estimate up front given the spread in what people report paying, and ask whether you'd be working with a longtime Winters technician or the newer HL Bowman side of the business.

Way way over priced. They gave me a quote for 3 times the amount of 4 other companies. Don’t trust their prices!

Ok, I just had the nicest service provider at my home, and because of him I will 100% always call Winters in the future! Gordon was so helpful and friendly and nice!

After many years of being a satisfied customer, the service experience has become terrible. Winters sold to another company, HL Bowman. The service is awful. Customer service is an AI-chat bot first. When you eventually get a live person, they are rude. HL Bowman has now missed the appointment windows twice in a row. It is frustrating to take a day to work at home and have them not show up or be hours later than the 4-hour window they give. I miss the local, old Winters service. I am requesting a refund on the remainder of my maintenance plan. I will be finding another company. I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed. I would recommend finding a better HVAC company and one that is local, rather than a private equity roll-up from out-of-state.

Mike was great! He triaged the issues from most urgent to least and gave great educational info regarding the matters.
