Highlights
- Fast, friendly service — recent Google review and directory summary both note it
- Established mechanical partner — now backed by Breen & Sullivan's Boston-area network
- Billing dispute on record — quoted $600-800 leak test ballooned into overcharge claims
- Commercial-first focus — markets to building operators, not clearly residential
- Low BuildZoom score — not ranked in the top half of Massachusetts contractors
- Conflicting founding dates — one listing says 2018, site claims 1992
Over 150 commercial accounts across the Boston area, by Encon Commercial Services' own count — this Danvers HVAC, electrical, and plumbing outfit is built around building managers and property operators, not typical single-family calls. Its own website has since folded into Breen & Sullivan Mechanical Services, a Wilmington mechanical contractor that announced a partnership with Encon; Breen & Sullivan says it has served the greater Boston area since 1992, though a separate business-data listing puts Encon's own founding at 2018 — worth asking directly which history and warranty now apply to the combined company. Google shows a 3.8-star average across just 4 ratings, a small sample. The one written review from the past few months calls the service fast and friendly and says the reviewer would recommend the company, and a directory summary of two other reviews describes the same pattern. The history isn't uniformly clean, though: one account describes a leak test quoted at $600-800 that turned into a dispute over hours billed after a $150 deposit, and BuildZoom's scoring doesn't put the company in the top half of Massachusetts contractors. Because the business markets to commercial and multi-property clients, it's worth confirming upfront whether smaller or residential jobs are still taken on, and getting any quoted scope and hourly minimums in writing — the billing dispute on record centered on exactly that gap between an estimate and the final invoice. Post-partnership, it's also worth asking whether Encon or Breen & Sullivan is the one dispatching the crew and standing behind the work. This looks like a better fit for a facilities manager needing HVAC, electrical, or plumbing coverage across several buildings than for a homeowner with one repair — confirm who's actually showing up and get pricing terms in writing before booking.

Be very wary of this company and get estimates for work in writing - we had them do a leak test at our business for which they quoted $600-$800 if no repairs were needed - we gave them a $150 deposit to start the job. They came for the first day and completed the test and charged us for 2 hours of work they were not there for 2 hours - but I'm not disputing that but then AFTER their guys had told us the work was completed and no issues were found they came for the inspection several days later and charged us for 5 hours of labor. Having uses contractors before I understand many have a minimum charge whenever they show up - ok so I'm not disputing for 2 hours on the second day but adding 3 hours to that when the work was already completed and they just stood there while the inspector put the seal on is price gauging. They then invoiced us for $1,105.50 which did not include our deposit and I was shocked that a simple leak test quoted at $600-$800 turned into a 7 HOUR $1,105.50 job so I contacted them or I should say I tried to contact them several times and got no response, no response, no response finally got a response months later they said the bill was correct I told them it did not even reflect the deposit we gave them so then 4 months later they send us a bill that reflects the deposit but won't even talk to us about the 7 HOUR labor charge and discrepancy from the quote they gave us - I paid the balance of the invoice minus the price gauging 3 hours so they got a total of $744.25 from us. They have now sent us to collections for $361.25. Be very leery of this company.
