Greg Vaughan's credentials are the settled part: Massachusetts confirms an active master plumber licence in his name, and his Hyde Park company has carried BBB accreditation and an A+ grade since 2008. The harder question is which Vaughan Plumbing you get. Its deepest praise is old. The HomeAdvisor page averages 4.7 across 94 ratings, but the reviews you can actually read there stop in 2018, and they agree on two things: the crew arrives when it says it will, and it explains the work. A homeowner writing in April 2017 described a shower-drain leak diagnosed on the spot, with a cheaper and quicker fix than they had braced for; another in December 2016 said the turnaround from online request to booked appointment was under an hour and everything was brought up to code. The newer accounts pull the other way. In October 2025 a Thumbtack customer said the repair worked but questioned the bill — $914 for a thermostatic stem, hot and cold seals and a diverter rebuild, about an hour of work. In June 2026 a commenter in an r/boston thread wrote that Vaughan came highly recommended but "did okay on some stuff and not so great on other stuff", with communication that was "very frustrating". A different redditor, in July 2024, said they had had good luck with the company. Price runs through the whole span rather than only the recent stretch: a 2016 reviewer wrote "did good job but was too pricey", and a 2017 one opened with "although they might seeem pricey" before crediting the one-year warranty on the work. The company says Greg Vaughan founded it in 2008 after starting in the trade at sixteen, and it now runs a team handling repairs, water heaters, boilers, drains, gas lines and backflow testing; BuildZoom counts 128 permitted projects. BBB's file puts the business start at 2002 instead, so the tenure figures disagree depending on where you look. A reasonable call for standard residential plumbing — a water heater, a boiler swap, a leaking valve. Get the price in writing before the work starts and settle who your point of contact will be, because both recent complaints are about money and communication rather than the plumbing itself.

The problem was fixed, however it seems to me that I was overcharged for a Job that took about a hour,I don’t understand how a plumber charges but I assume labor costs are part of the job, I didn’t get charged for labor I didn’t see any new parts installed the person on the phone said 914 dollars is what they charge for a thermostatic stem , hot and cold seals and a diverter rebuild does this particular job only takes a hour to fix? Someone who knows about plumbing can you respond
They were early. I was shocked that they were waiting for me? Their work was quick and professional with a touch of humor. I would recommend them. Thank you Greg and Chris
