Uptack is organized less like a two-truck plumbing outfit and more like a small mechanical company: separate departments for service, plumbing, hydronic heat, and HVAC installation, all run out of one address on Rochambault Street in Haverhill. How long it has been at this depends on who you ask. The company's own site claims more than 65 years helping homeowners with plumbing, heating and cooling. The BBB has the corporation established and incorporated in Massachusetts in August 1982 — 43 years — with eleven employees, and Porch says 44. Either way, this is an established shop, and it is listed as a Haverhill Chamber of Commerce member. The public ratings are middling rather than glowing: 3.4 from seven ratings on Google, 3.9 from eleven on Porch. Its BBB page carries an A+ grade, though the company is not BBB accredited. Price, not workmanship, is the thing recent customers raise. In February a homeowner who said the crew is friendly and does good work still balked at $380 for a leaky bathroom faucet — two visits, the first a fifteen-minute look to identify the part, the second to install a part the customer had bought — and called it grossly overpriced. So pin the money down before anyone is dispatched: what the diagnostic visit costs, whether it is credited toward the repair, and whether a return trip is billed again. Two other things are worth a direct question. The BBB page names Leonard Hall as owner in its write-up but lists Edward Davis as owner under business management, so confirm who you are actually contracting with. And the Massachusetts plumbers board license, #8678, appears on the BBB listing rather than as a registry confirmation here, so check it yourself with the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters. The fit is best for the heavier mechanical work its divisions point to — boiler and steam heat, gas piping, whole-house plumbing and drainage, ducted HVAC installs. For a small fixture repair, get the price settled first.
