Sawyer Mason sells wide plank engineered white oak — the prefinished, hardwax-oiled kind you choose from samples and have someone else install. Buyers reach it through dealers: in a 2021 Houzz post, a Connecticut shopper said a dealer rep contacted her after a sample request, sent more samples when asked, and charged nothing for them. The one detailed account of living with the floors is mixed, and worth reading closely. In a 2023 post, a homeowner who installed the Copley line through a kitchen, dining room and hallway called it gorgeous — a natural, matte look — then found a couple of spots where the finish had been missed. The selling point of a hardwax oil floor is that it can be spot-repaired, but she wrote that the company would only say she could "probably" use Rubio Pure, that it did not match, and that she got no straight answer about what had actually been used. Her conclusion was that she could not recommend the floors if touch-ups cannot be made to match. A Reddit poster in May 2026 was separately asking flooring pros how to match white oak stair treads to their Sawyer Mason prefinished European oak, and a 2019 blog post described a bedroom makeover done with Sawyer Mason planks bought through Stonewood Products — the dealer channel again. Before ordering, get the exact finish in writing: the product, the tint, and the touch-up procedure, in the company's own words. And line up your installer separately, because the floors and the labour come from different places.

We got SM Copley and they're currently installed on half of our project (kitchen/dining/hallway). They're gorgeous. Very “natural” look and feel. Copley has a hard wax oil finish. It has a beautiful, matte sheen. One of the main benefits of that finish is that “spot” sanding/repairs can be made. So, when I noticed that Sawyer Mason missed a couple of spots with the finish, I wasn't concerned. I contacted SM to find out what I needed to apply to those small sections. It should have been a five second phone call and thirty seconds worth of work to fix. I got something like, “You could probably use Rubio Pure (untinted/no color) or maintenance oil.” Um… “Probably?” I thought, “Wtf? … I PROBABLY just dropped $20 grand on a floor and want it to match.” But I gave it a shot. Went out and picked up some Pure and applied it. Nope. No match. Now I need to sand off that spot and try to get SM to tell me what they REALLY used. I'm not holding my breath. They were pretty dodgy about answering my questions when I pressed on in the first phone call. I asked if the rep was sure because I wanted to know for sure. She put me on hold and contacted a separate department. Then she came back and said, “That's what they said to use.” I asked, “That's what they said to use? Or ‘that's what they said THEY used when they made the Copley’?” She answered, “Thats what they said to use.” I am going to be upset if they don't cough up the real info after I send them pics of how the Rubio Pure didn't do the job. If I can't get a proper Rubio match for touch ups, it will effectively eliminate the #1 benefit of a hardwax oil finish. Although the floors as a whole are nice to look at TODAY, I couldn't possibly recommend SM floors if the company will actively prevent customers from enjoying them long-term because they can't repair/upkeep them to look the SAME as the floor they paid for.
I initially did a sample request through the company and a rep from a dealer in my area contacted me. I'm in Connecticut. The rep has been wonderful. She sent my first request and when I asked for more samples she was more than happy to send them. Very responsive and easy to work with which is a plus. No charges/fees for the high end product which is nice.
