A hundred and fifty-eight Google ratings, and not one of them below five stars. That is the first thing you notice about Harry's Carpet One Floor & Home, and the reviews behind the number are unusually specific — people name the salesperson who measured, the installers who showed up, and what the finished floor looked like. The company traces itself to 1927, when a man named Harry opened a furniture shop on Dudley Street in Upham's Corner selling used pieces and linoleum squares. It moved to North Quincy in the 1970s and has sat in Wollaston since 1981; today Harry Balekjian, the founder's grandson, runs it with his sister Larain out of an 8,000-square-foot showroom at 676 Hancock Street. They are part of the Carpet One cooperative, which is how a neighborhood store carries big-brand selection. What they actually do is both halves of the job: sell you the carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl or laminate, then install it with their own crews. The work reviewers describe most often is the fiddly kind. A stair runner carried up a main staircase and through a second-floor hallway with several turns — the customer specifically wondered how the pattern would line up, and said it did. Another had kitchen and mudroom flooring replaced where a removed wall had left the floor at two different levels; the salesman came out twice to walk the details with their contractor before install day. A commercial customer in January reported the job came in under budget and turned around quickly. The pattern in the recent reviews is consistent: unhurried, low-pressure help in the showroom, measurements taken within days, and installers who move the furniture and clean up after. The same names surface again and again — Phil, Steve, Brian, Neil on the sales side, Sergio and Jorge installing — which tells you the staff is stable. Several customers are on their second or third project with them. One thing to understand before you go: this is a showroom-plus-installation business, not a crew you call for a small repair. Their own site says they cover Quincy, Boston and most of the South Shore, so confirm your town if you are further out. They also list hardwood refinishing, custom area rugs and stair runners, insurance work and property-management jobs — worth asking about directly, since almost all the customer accounts are about new carpet and floor installation. If you want to see and touch options before committing, and you would rather one company handle both the material and the install, this is a straightforward call. Ask for a written estimate after the in-home measure, and confirm the timeline — reviewers repeatedly mention install dates being set within days or weeks of selection.

This was my second time working with Harry’s Carpet One, and once again they delivered an exceptional experience from estimation through installation. Steve and Phil were fantastic—professional, responsive, and genuinely invested in getting everything right.

This project was more complex than my previous one, as replacing the kitchen and mudroom flooring required adjusting for a section of wall that had been removed, which affected the floor level. Phil went above and beyond, coming to the house twice to meet with my contractor to review the details and ensure installation day would be smooth and successful.

Their professionalism is evident in every step, and I truly felt that Phil cared as much about the final outcome as I did—even down to making sure the transition strip perfectly matched my existing hardwood floors.

I highly recommend Harry’s Carpet One. They are skilled, attentive, and committed to delivering excellent results.

Grazie

Extremely pleased with Harry Carpet One. Went into the store on a weekend looking to replace our stair runner and upstairs hallway runner. Was shown around by a very pleasant employee named Phil who has been working there for decades. They have a huge selection of carpets to choose from. Phil showed us different jobs they had done and made some suggestions for what we were looking for. He let us take a carpet sample home to make sure we really liked it and what it would look like in our home. Phil came by that same week and did measurements. The next week, 2 installers came and took out our old stair runner and disposed of it for us. Then they installed our new carpet, a continuous stair runner and wall to wall hallway runner on the second floor. Their work and craftsmanship was top tier. The whole job took about 4.5 hours. It transformed our home instantly. Will definitely be going back for future projects.
