EarthTech Systems LLC is a Tyngsborough, Massachusetts heating and cooling contractor whose work is overwhelmingly geothermal — ground-source heat pump design, installation and long-term service — with air-to-water and mini-split heat pump work alongside it. The Better Business Bureau lists the company under Heating Contractors, and homeowners routinely name the same handful of people: Terry on design and project coordination, Ryan and Elijah on install and service calls. The deepest praise comes from whole-system conversions. A homeowner who replaced an oil burner and hydro-air system with geothermal in February 2026 described the team as responsive and reliable from start to finish, with back-up heat and hot water supplied through a cold-weather changeover and follow-up checks after completion. Another February 2026 review covered a groundwater heat pump in a 2,400 square foot house that came in on budget with no surprises, including help with the MassSave rebate paperwork. A 2023 review detailed a 3-ton water-to-air ground source system on two 360-foot closed vertical loops in an 1890s house, noting the bid was higher than planned but tracked closely with another respected specialist's. Service work draws the most consistent repeat praise. Reviewers describe quick diagnosis and explanation of what was done, a Sunday email answered by a phone call the same day, and a midnight visit during a cold snap where the technician brought space heaters when the part turned out to be unavailable. One customer whose previous installer abandoned the job mid-project described a multi-day evaluation and a detailed written report. Another said the company paused service billing while a manufacturer defect was chased down, then worked with the manufacturer to recover costs. Price is the recurring thing to settle before signing. A 2026 reviewer gave three stars for exactly that: strong technical knowledge and explanation, but cost that ran incredibly high. On Reddit in 2023, a Massachusetts homeowner comparing geothermal proposals said EarthTech's came in at nearly twice a competitor's. Installation complaints, while a small minority, are specific and worth reading: a 2024 one-star review about a mini-split installation described equipment delivered differently from what was discussed and verbal assurances not honored, and urged getting everything in writing; another 2024 reviewer said installation mistakes on a heat pump cost more than twenty thousand dollars; a 2023 reviewer alleged dishonesty over a replacement tankless boiler part. Smaller friction shows up too — a part not ordered for a second-floor damper, and one reviewer who never received a promised quote. For a geothermal conversion or ongoing service on an existing ground-source system in northeastern Massachusetts, this is a specialist with real depth. Get the scope, equipment model and every verbal commitment written into the contract, and get a second geothermal bid so you can judge the price.
“EarthTech was very energetic but then gave us a proposal that was inexplicably nearly 2x what Wenzel gave us . . . and I liked Wenzel.”
EarthTech has been so incredibly responsive and helpful already, and the problem isn't even fixed yet. I had sent an email to the company on a Sunday, because my geothermal unit was not cooling. Terry called me on Sunday to understand the system and issues I was experiencing. He got a tech out very quickly to diagnose a bad board. Just waiting for that to come in but they have been great! I'll do all of my preventative maintenance and repairs with them!
Terry from EarthTech Systems came to assess our house for a possible geothermal/ground sourced heat pump system. Though we do not have a price yet (this was the very first step), Terry was very knowledgeable, thorough, personable, and spent a good two hours reviewing our current heating/cooling infrastructure, house and yard.
Initial visit was pleasant and informative. System is evaluating updating of geothermal to better save.
Great technical knowledge and explanations, but cost was incredibly high
After extensive research, we elected to replace our oil burner/hydro-air heating/cooling system with a geothermal system installed by EarthTech. I can say we are extremely happy we went with EarthTech. From start to finish, each member of the EarthTech team was very responsive, knowledgeable, reliable, honest, and pleasant to work with. We changed our system over during cold weather months and were supplied with back-up heating and hot water from EarthTech. They took the time to check in on how the units were working after project completion. We appreciate their attention to detail, extensive knowledge and experience, and would highly recommend them if you are thinking about geothermal. Thank you to the entire team!
