Century-old slate roofs are the specialty that keeps showing up in Daniel Fox Roofing's reviews. Based in Newton, the company says it's been repairing and replacing roofs there for about 40 years, and besides the roofing itself it lists chimney, gutter, and skylight work on its site. It's also a listed member of the Newton Chamber of Commerce. Fifty-one reviews have accumulated since 2022 across five sites, every one of them five stars, and none negative in the past six months. The recent ones follow a pattern: a homeowner with a 100-year-old slate roof called three roofers this spring and picked Danny after he inspected it, found it in better shape than expected, and quoted less than the competing bids. Another had a drone survey and photos of a leaking roof within days of the first call, with the repair scheduled the following week. A third needed snow cleared off a roof one morning and had it done that same afternoon. A few of the other sites that mention the company — ones like profoundroofing.org and totalroofingandsidinginc.com — repost the identical customer quote rather than adding anything new, so Google is really the place to read independent reviews. Several customers describe using Danny for twenty to thirty years, which tracks with a company that's stuck around this long in a trade full of short-lived outfits. For a routine asphalt reshingle, a bigger crew might turn the job around faster. For slate, copper, or a leak other roofers couldn't pin down, this is the name that keeps coming up in Newton — worth asking about scheduling up front, since the jobs described here are handled by a small, hands-on crew rather than several teams at once.

Danny and his team are wonderful. I feel like we got a very fair price for work on our slate roof (fixing leaks, replacing and securing some slates). His communication is great. He is super responsive, and he shows up when he says he will, and does exactly what he promised. The work area was pristine when the job was finished. We'd hire him again in a minute. Thanks, Danny!

Danny came as a referral from our realtor and she was right. Danny was very responsive and showed up with a drone within a couple days and shared pictures of our roof. After talking for a bit he made his recommendations and was over in a week to repair our leaking roof.

Great guy and very easy to work with, thanks again Danny

We reached out to multiple roofers to inspect our 100-year-old slate roof for broken, cracked, or loose tiles, and three got back to us, including Danny. Danny came to inspect the roof while we were at work and called afterward to let us know it was in excellent shape, needing only 10–15 slate tiles replaced; his estimate was fair and significantly lower than the other quotes we received. What sold us was how much he genuinely loved our roof and his commitment to maintaining its original aesthetics. Danny and Rocky returned a week later, carefully selecting the best slate tiles to match neighboring ones and even replacing some unbroken tiles to ensure consistent coloration, while also fixing issues left by previous roofers. Now our roof is in perfect condition, and we’re hopeful it will last another 100 years.
