Boston Floor Covering is the kind of place you walk into with a room measurement and walk out of with four samples under your arm. The Watertown company sells and installs carpet, vinyl, laminate, hardwood and rubber flooring for homes and commercial spaces around Greater Boston, and says it has been family-owned and operated since 2008. The showroom is the through-line. Nearly everything people describe starts with picking material in person and ends with a crew laying it — a stair runner, a basement floor, a full replacement — rather than with a contractor arriving cold at the door. Its Google page averages 4.8 across 22 ratings, and the write-ups run consistently positive across a history stretching back to 2021 on several different listings. Recent customers stay in that lane. In June a homeowner credited the company with redoing their floor and pointed others toward it, and in March a stair runner customer described the whole experience as a smooth one from start to finish. Two reviews in six months is not a torrent, but the tone has not shifted. The part worth pinning down is scheduling before you commit. One directory listing carries a complaint from a would-be customer whose in-home estimate appointment was never kept and never called off — a single account, but the sort that costs a homeowner a morning. Confirm the estimate window, and get a callback number for the day of. The contact details are also scattered. Different listings put the business at 629 Main Street, 111 School Street and 56a Irving Street in Watertown, with two different phone numbers in circulation, so use the number on the company's own site rather than whichever directory a search turns up first. If you want to see and feel the material before buying, and you would rather have one outfit handle both the product and the install, this is a reasonable call — particularly for carpet, stair runners and luxury vinyl, which is what customers keep describing. Homeowners who want a contractor to come to them, samples in hand, should ask up front how the estimate visit works.

From start to finish, my experience with Boston Floor Covering was top notch. George provided an overview the first time I went there. Being slow to decide, I returned to look around a couple more times and met with Peter. It was certainly helpful to have four samples at home for a few days. Decision made, product delivered in timely fashion and then installed by my terrific handyman. It's like having a new room! Boston Floor Covering provides patient, kind, efficient and personable service, and the price is fair, too.

Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Boston Floor Covering. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
