WORKS by Jesse DeBenedictis is a Beverly design-build shop whose customers keep coming back — a 2024 reviewer was on their third project over several years, and a 2022 reviewer returned for a second round because the first went so well. The company says it was founded in 2001 by Jesse DeBenedictis, who still leads it, and its pitch is one accountable team from design through construction and warranty. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and its BBB page carries an A+. The review record runs deep and steady: 25 written reviews from 2017 through this June, and a 4.8 average across 28 Google ratings. Process is the recurring theme. A June 2026 reviewer described a step-by-step system that walks you through the building process; in 2024 a homeowner with structural work said the Buildertrend app kept them current through the inevitable surprises; a 2025 kitchen renovation came with status updates and quick answers throughout. The scope reads like a true design-build firm — a 2022 reviewer described a six-month, multi-room project covering new floors, considerable carpentry, and extensive repainting; others recount a basement transformed in 2020, a porch restoration, and a meticulous exterior staining job in 2025. The one sour note in nine years of reviews is price: a March 2020 one-star said the estimate prices were outrageous, full stop. Worth noting the counterpoint — a 2022 reviewer who did a full home remodel and addition in Gloucester started with a project-planning phase specifically to pin down costs and scope before committing. The company also lists remodeling and kitchen-and-bath certifications (CRPM, CKBR) and lead-safe credentials, all self-reported. A 2019 Reddit comment in the Salem subreddit put it simply: "Works By JD" does great work. For a planned, design-led remodel on the North Shore — a kitchen, a bath, or a whole-floor rebuild — this is a firm with the paper trail to justify the call; just go in expecting the pricing conversation up front, and use their planning phase to get the number in writing.
““Works By JD” does great work.”
Jesse and Lisa were amazing to work with. They were thoughtful and helpful when it came to creating what we envisioned and how to do it. They communicate well and have made a step my step system to help you understand and navigate the building process. We highly recommend them for small and large projects.
Jesse is a great, kind-hearted guy who like to take care of his people!
We had a great experience with Works by JD. They were helpful and professional in scoping our kitchen renovation. They worked quickly and efficiently, kept us in the loop with status updates throughout the project, and answered all the questions we had along the way. We are SO happy with the finished product and highly recommend working with them!
The exterior painting job done by a crew from WORKS could not have been better. As I watched their work going from surface cleaning, preparation with areas of scraping, minor filling and caulking to priming and the final solid color staining, the care and expertise with which it was being done was obvious. I tend to be a perfectionist and was happy to perceive the guys treating the house as if it were their own!
I have used WORKS on three different projects in our home, spanning several years. I keep going back to them, which is evidence of how I hold them in regard. They do good work. They are attentive to the project. The employees are all polite and respectful. They focus on their work. Almost every day a supervisor-type shows up to check on everything. In our latest work with them, one of the subcontractors messed up big time. WORKS completely understood the mess-up, was on our side, and made sure the re-do was done quickly and no cost to us. Absolutely no argument or hesitancy; they supported us and got it done right. I’m very comfortable with WORKS and will use them in the future should a need arise.
