Standard Electric isn't a crew that will show up to rewire your kitchen — it's the supply counter your electrician might be calling from the parking lot. Its Gloucester location is one branch of a regional wholesale distributor selling electrical, lighting, and industrial parts to contractors and businesses across Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, not a licensed installer taking service calls at your house. The company traces back to 1952, when the Brand family opened it as a single shop; it's since grown into a multi-branch operation now organized under U.S. Electrical Services, Inc., headquartered in Wilmington, MA. On LinkedIn it describes itself as one of New England's largest electrical suppliers, backed by a 220,000-square-foot distribution center — a wholesale operation, not a job-site crew. What reviews exist are thin and scattered across branches rather than concentrated on this Gloucester location: a Google listing shows 5 stars from just 4 ratings, a Birdeye profile for the Lowell branch shows 4.5 stars over 11 reviews, and a lone Checkbook.org recommendation is tied to the Waltham showroom. It's also listed as a member of the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce. Before reaching out, understand what you'd actually be calling: a parts and materials supplier geared toward contractors and businesses, not a company that will pull permits and do the wiring itself. If you need an electrician to do work in your home, this listing is the wrong stop — but if you or your electrician need supplies, the multi-branch reach and 65-plus years in business are the closest thing to a track record here.

am writing this email to let you know how helpful Will from your Gloucester store was. He went out of his was to make sure the main breaker for my 200 amp service panel was the correct one. I am in Maine and without power because of this needed part that no one up here had in stock. I had a friend in Massachusetts driving to get the part. I told Will he will be cutting it close to get there by 430 closing. Will stated he would wait till my friend got there to pick it up. Even after closing . My daughter and I drove the six hours last night to get the part. Now we have our power back. Why is Will’s good character so important to me. I lost my wife two years ago. Saturday day is my daughter’s 10th birthday. Her birthday means a-lot to her since losing her mother. Unknowingly we did not have to cancel her party because of Will’s willingness to help me. Character matters . Will has character. Hats off to him. Thank you. Ed
