Provencher Van Lines is a third-generation, family-run mover based in Peabody — the company says its founder's grandfather started it in 1920, making it one of the older moving outfits on the North Shore. Its stated service area stretches across Essex and Middlesex counties into Greater Boston and beyond into neighboring states. Its Google page shows 4.6 stars from 67 ratings, and the last six months alone brought seven reviews, all five stars. Reviewers keep naming the same people — Richard, Kai, Curtis, Landon — for specifics: one recent review credits the crew with disassembling and reassembling two kitchen tables and carrying them up and down a staircase with a stairlift without a scratch, and another describes Richard and Kai as meticulous installing a new area rug and responding to messages even on a Sunday. A separate ranking site independently puts them at 4.8 out of 5 across 20 reviews, though another names professionalism as their strongest mark at a more middling 7.25 out of 10. One recent account describes a quoted 7am arrival getting shifted the night before, so it's worth locking down the arrival window and crew size in writing. Elsewhere, an older, undated review describes a serious, unresolved complaint about a break-in and missing belongings tied to a move or storage job, alongside an unresponsive owner — a real outlier against everything else here, and worth asking about directly if storage is part of the plan. For a straightforward local or long-distance move, especially one with heavy or delicate pieces, the reviews point to a crew that handles the details carefully. Get the crew size, hourly rate, and arrival window confirmed in writing before moving day, and ask directly about how they handle temporary storage.

I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful Kai, Curtis, Rich, and Landon were to work with! Professional to the highest degree. They helped us switch two kitchen tables out, disassembling and reassembling both in their new homes. Rich is a great communicator with both his customers and team. Would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. Thank you again for all of your hard work on such a hot day, you took it in stride! **Also editing to add that his team moved these tables up and down a staircase with a stairlift. Never ONCE did I hear them hit the stairlift or wall. Incredibly impressive and shows how attentive they are to the home.

Incredibly responsive and very fair/clear with quoting. Richard came recommended from my dad who had a much more complicated move over an hour away and was really impressed. Glad I reached out as he had already done moves in our apartment in Charlestown. You tell he's got the decades of experience right away.

My husband and I are so thrilled with the installation of our new area rug. Richard and Kai were meticulous about making sure it was perfectly done. We appreciate Richard’s quick responses and communication with us even on a Sunday. They were a pleasure to have in our home and we highly recommend them for your needs. Sincerely, Rick and Elizabeth Lowe

What does a move cost in Greater Boston?
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Provencher Van Lines. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Flights without an elevator, counting both ends.

Typical move around $1,300
