After a December 2024 rainstorm, one homeowner called five roofing companies; three called back, two came out, and the Osgood crew went up on the roof with a bucket of roofing cement and dealt with it. That February 2025 review gets at what this Salem company is — a broad-service outfit that answers the phone, and whose owner tends to turn up at the estimate himself. Patrick Osgood and Sons Construction works out of Ropes Street in Salem, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active. The range in the reviews is wide: roofs and gutter systems, interior and exterior painting, carpentry, decks and porches, chimney repointing, pavers and walkways, a wheelchair ramp built where the back stairs had been, a garage, an art studio, and condo and HOA work around the North Shore. Google carries 103 ratings averaging 4.8, with written accounts running from 2016 into mid-2026, and the praise is unusually specific. A March 2025 customer got a detailed quote and timeline for an art studio and said the job finished on time and on budget. A September 2023 reviewer who had a garage built, windows and doors replaced and the exterior painted wrote that the price quoted was the price paid. A January 2025 customer singled out the follow-up photographs documenting the finished work. On Reddit, a July 2025 commenter in r/SalemMA said they had used the company, would hire it again, and found it moderately priced. Then there is the other side, and it has a shape worth studying. The most recent complaint, from March 2026, comes from a homeowner whose siding job — part-funded by their father in September 2025 — was still unfinished months later, and who says work began without anyone asking when it would be convenient to start. In February 2025 another customer rated the company 2★ over unsupervised workers and subcontractors, craftsmanship they were redoing themselves, and being told the owner does not like working with "difficult customers". In August 2024 a homeowner recovering from the January 2024 storm flood said costs were never spelled out despite repeated requests and that they were left in the dark about the third-party vendors involved. Even a favourable November 2025 review noted the work took longer than quoted. Those complaints share a thread: what happens when a job is open-ended, insurance-driven, or largely run by subs. Against 103 ratings they are the minority — but they are the specific, current risk to plan around. So pin the scope, the price and the finish date down in writing before anything starts, ask who supervises the site daily and which trades are subcontracted, and on any storm or insurance restoration insist on written cost updates as the work proceeds. For defined exterior work — a roof, gutters, a porch, a repaint — this is a company plenty of North Shore homeowners have hired more than once.

I contacted the Osgood Companies because of a concern I had with my roof which was quite old and I believed needed replacement. I had the roof inspected, and it was recommended that it be replaced due to its age and failure of some of the shingles. Owner Patrick Osgood personally contacted me and we discussed having the roof replaced, he then sent me several options and varying price points so that I would have options to think about. He steered me in the direction of Tamko shingles, a premium product of which he is the only authorized installer in all of New England which come with a 50 year transferable warranty! I went with this option and we scheduled a date for the work to begin. Patrick stuck to this timeline and sent his in-house team of roofing, siding and window experts. His team arrived at my home on the schedule date and quickly moved any planted vegetation/patio furniture out of the way, put up tarps and dropped a dumpster as well as a Porta Potty! very professional! His team went to work precisely at 8 AM, which is an accordance with my towns noise ordinance, and by the time I arrived home that evening the job had been completed! This is not the first time I have contracted with the Osgood companies for renovations to my home and every time their work is exemplary, professional and done on time as specified in the contract!
I would recommend the Osgood companies to anyone looking for quality home improvements!
Superior service
Horrible. Do not use these people. My father decided to help pay for new siding in September 2025.as of now, I am STILL waiting for them to finish.
1) they never asked me when it was ok to start. They just started. Dad doesnt live here. I am sole owner of house. They started without thw home owners permission
2) they threw away my storm windows after I told them no. Patrick said to me and I legit quote "they won't look good" I said idc, I cant afford new ones. Tossed them.
3) these nail were sticking out in my back hall for 3 weeks after that area was done. It took 35 days for them to come back and fix it!
4) the crew damaged many things on my property
5) they removed lighting, (which i get, totally fine) except it took over a month of calls and emails to get them to come back and put it back up. My driveway was pitch dark because no lighting and the c rew damaged my solar spotlight which they STILL have not compensated for.
6) I told them I wanted my storm windows back. They didnt even tell me they tossed them until about 2 months ago
7) today I went out and noticed the siding on one side is already warped.

HORRIBLE

Edit: I am not a woman, and they cant even get that right, as you can see by their reply. The father in question doesnt have anything to do with the property. And I have since gone to the city clerks office and pulled the permits to find that they have never even been signed!
I can't say enough great things about Patrick and his team. We worked with him on a smaller chimney repointing last year and this past November added pavers to our driveway. We plan on partnering with him on a few more projects in our old colonial home over the next several months (beam replacement, flooring, exterior painting etc). Patrick is super patient, honest about what would work for us to save us time and money, and his crew works really efficiently. Excited to work with Osgood again!
Patrick Osgood Construction did a great job on our bedroom and living room renovation. The work was not done as quickly as quoted but it was completed. Patrick’s team was professional. I interviewed a few contractors before selecting Patrick to handle the renovation. I would recommend Osgood to my friends. Diane and Joe
