Newport Electric's Google page carries a 5.0 average across 164 ratings, and the specifics behind that number keep circling back to a short list of names — Jay Fontes most of all — handling everything from a quick doorbell repair to full panel upgrades. Reviewers who use the company's own shorthand, NEC, describe a Needham-based electrician called in for both routine fixes and bigger projects: EV chargers, solar-tied generators, panel capacity increases. The most recent stretch backs that up. In the past six months, 48 Google reviews landed with none flagged negative, and the specifics are concrete rather than generic. One homeowner had electric service torn off the house by a falling tree in a wind storm — Jay came out with a same-day estimate and had the crew working as soon as it was approved. Another needed a Tesla charger and found the quote came in higher than competitors specifically because the panel needed a Tesla limiter; a third had a generator installed with a solar engineer brought in to make sure it worked correctly alongside an existing solar system. Smaller jobs get the same attention — outlet repairs, light fixture swaps, a troubleshooting visit where the crew cleaned up all the debris before leaving. Several reviewers mention this being their second or third job with the same technician, which fits a company built around a handful of recurring names rather than a rotating crew. Not every visit is friction-free. One reviewer rated a May appointment 4 stars, saying the crew was good but that the price felt high for a 45-minute job — worth asking for a clear breakdown of the minimum service-call cost before booking something small. This is a fit for homeowners tackling a modern electrical upgrade — EV charging, solar-adjacent work, panel capacity — as much as for a same-day repair. Ask for the technician named in the reviews that convinced you: the reviews here are built job by job around Jay, Keith, Kyle, and Tyler, not around a faceless dispatch.

I found NEC since they were listed as a Tesla authorized installer. I got a couple of quotes from other electricians as well. NEC came out to be on the higher end (due to needing the Tesla limiter) - However after speaking with Jay Fontes, It really solidified the decision that NEC would be the company for us! Jay was professional, easy to talk to, and it was clear he was very experienced. After emailing, Tracey scheduled me within the week and everything went pretty smoothly! Turns out, I needed the Tesla limiter (can only be purchased by an authorized installer) since my electrical panel wouldn't be up to code with the added circuits. Basically, it would limit the charge the vehicle would input if I had everything running in the house, which I don't have everything running anyways. If I had gone with another electrician, I believe they would have had to program my wall charger to permanently charge on a lower speed in order to meet code vs having a limiter that only limited the power when needed. NEC was in and out in a couple of hours and I had a working charger. A couple of days later, Ed had called to schedule the inspection. An inspector came out the next day and everything looked good. The work was done so well, he was pretty much in and out. NEC is very professional and I would recommend them to anyone looking to install an EV Charger!

The guys were fantastic. The price was high for the 45 minutes they were here, but what can you do?

NEC did a wonderful job installing a new generator. Jay was extremely patient and explained the entire process to us. He went above and beyond making sure we had the best possible solution. He even had a solar engineer on the job because the generator interacts with the solar system. The entire team was did a great job. Highly recommend NEC
