Ask around about buying in a specific pocket of Dorchester and one name keeps surfacing. A buyer who went looking in early 2026 put it that way outright: they needed someone who knew the neighborhood inside out, and Leslie MacKinnon's name came up almost immediately. MacKinnon & Co. is a Boston residential real estate team working out of 126 Newbury Street. The company says it is led by Leslie MacKinnon as principal, with Brian MacKinnon as director of operations and agent Brendan Hall on the team, and that it operates under the Compass brokerage. Its stated territory is Boston, with a focus on Dorchester, South Boston and Jamaica Plain. The review history runs 25 reviews across three sources back to 2023, and it doesn't wobble — five stars, and the same theme underneath them: neighborhood-level knowledge, applied to a specific transaction. A seller who listed two Dorchester condos with her in March 2026 credited confident negotiating through a market that had turned. A first-time buyer this spring described being taken through current pricing and unfamiliar neighborhoods before deciding, then hearing from her after the closing to line up movers and a painter. Four of those reviews land in the last six months, none of them negative. Two things are worth settling before you sign anything. The recent praise clusters tightly in Dorchester and Ashmont, so if your house or your search is elsewhere in Greater Boston, ask what comparable recent work there looks like. And this is a team, not a solo agent — the company names an operations director and a second agent alongside Leslie, so pin down who will actually run your listing, your showings, and your day-to-day calls. The clearest fit here is a Dorchester-area buyer or seller who wants an agent already fluent in the blocks they're transacting on, and who values a plan over a fast pitch. Before hiring, ask for the recent comparable sales behind the pricing strategy and confirm which member of the team is your primary contact.

Working with Leslie was the best decision we could have made! She took the time to genuinely get to know us and truly understand what we were looking for in a real estate agent as well as in our dream house. Leslie is super knowledgeable about current trends in the housing market, well-connected in the area, and quick to respond to our needs. We were relatively new to the house-buying process and new very little about the areas we were looking at. Leslie's guidance and honesty helped us make confident decisions. Even after we closed Leslie remained in contact and helped us find movers, painters, landscapers, and other contractors. Her professionalism and attention to detail are unmatched. I have already recommended her to some friends and family and would definitely work with her again.

I came across Leslie's profile on Instagram almost one year ago during the very beginnings of my Boston condo search. After many wonderful years of living in NYC, I made the bittersweet decision to relocate to Boston in 2026 to be closer to family. While in the process of relocating, I felt that it would be an ideal time to purchase my first home for what would hopefully be a positive long term investment. While I had originally considered several different agents, once I met with Leslie, there was no doubt in my mind that she was the one that I wanted to work with. While I wasn't local to Boston at the time, we hit the ground running on my search last summer virtually before I came up to look at units in person. We toured and considered many different new construction properties. There was one property that I was particularly intrigued by on our first day of searching in person. Unfortunately, the unit that I was most interested in had had an accepted offer on it before it even hit the MLS - It was perfect in every way. I decided to go back to New York feeling energized about my search, but not ready to make any offers. Less than a week later, I got an early morning text from Leslie letting me know that the listing agent reached out to her to let her know that the unit that I had fallen in love with had come back on the market. We had a very small window of time to move swiftly to convince the list agent to not list that specific unit on the MLS. Less than two days later, we had an accepted offer to purchase my dream unit off market. I'm confident that I wouldn't have bought my specific unit, (aka my dream home), had I not been working with Leslie. You could say that we were in the right place at the right time, but it wasn't exactly luck - Leslie leveraged her relationship with the listing agent to put together a deal that made sense for everyone in a timely manner. She had already represented another set of buyers in my building, which I'm sure helped. Reflecting back, it seems like Leslie had a great relationship with every listing agent that we interacted with - these relationships matter, take note of this! Leslie is phenomenal. I could not have had a better experience working with Leslie + Brian from her team, I'm so grateful for all of their hard work to help me achieve my goal. I've already referred Leslie to a close friend of mine who recently had an accepted offer on a condo in South Boston. I'm thrilled to have been able to connect the two of them. Cheers!

Leslie sold 2 of our condominiums in Dorchester, and was an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the process. She navigated a tricky housing market and negotiated with confidence. She is definitely THE realtor in the Dorchester/Ashmont area. I highly recommend working with her if you're looking to buy or sell!

When we decided we wanted something different we knew we would need help. And to make things more interesting we wanted to buy within a very specific section of Dorchester. Almost immediately Leslie’s name came up, we needed someone that knew the neighborhood inside out. She came up with a clear strategy to achieve what we wanted and that was very reassuring. Given our wish list we had to be patient but we couldn’t waste time either, so Leslie had everything planned so we could move fast once our dream home came up. In the mist of it all was comforting to know that Leslie had a plan. She really knows her Dorchester real estate! Selling and buying is stressful but Leslie helped us do it in the most stress free manner possible. She was fun to work with. Love our new place. We would definitely work with Leslie again!

From the moment we met Leslie, it was clear she understood the Dorchester market inside and out—and genuinely cared about our community. Choosing her and her team to guide the sale of our beloved condo while we pursued a new home nearby was an easy decision. Leslie helped us achieve our target price, think through the logistical challenges, and navigate a complicated mortgage landscape with confidence. We simply wouldn’t be settled in our new place today without her steady guidance, deep expertise, and constant encouragement. She supported us through every stressful moment of moving a family, always with positivity, kindness, and a great sense of humor. If we ever had to go through this process again (and we sincerely hope we don’t!), we’d want Leslie leading the way once more. Our family will always be grateful for everything she did for us.
