Green Collar's paper trail is unusually long for an insulation crew: building-permit records on BuildZoom show about 1,100 permitted jobs across Massachusetts, roughly 280 of them in the past three years, with a typical permit around $5,700. The South Hadley company — in business since 2014 by its own account — does energy-efficiency work top to bottom: blown-in insulation, air sealing, spray foam, heat pumps and mini-splits, and replacement windows, as a participating independent installation contractor in the Mass Save rebate program. It describes itself as veteran-owned with about 40 employees, and says its service area covers Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, Berkshire, and Worcester counties — central and western Massachusetts, not Greater Boston. Its BBB page is an A+, accredited since 2017. The ratings line up across platforms: 4.9 from 28 reviews on Angi and HomeAdvisor (the same review set appears on both), 4.8 from 43 on Thumbtack, and 4.8 from a dozen on Google, in a review history that runs back to 2019. Reviewers over the years describe insulation, weatherization, and heat-pump jobs, and Reddit commenters in a Mass Save thread have recommended them for blown-in insulation and window work. The one review from this spring is five stars — a window installation the customer credited to an installer named Bryan. Not every job has landed well: among the Google reviews sits a detailed two-star account disputing an air-sealing job. The licensing on file is a directory claim — BuildZoom and the BBB both list a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#181415) for the company — so confirm it directly with the state before signing. And if you're outside central or western Massachusetts, ask early whether they'll take the job at all. For Mass Save insulation, weatherization, or a heat-pump conversion in their five-county footprint, this is an established, high-volume shop: start with the no-cost energy assessment they advertise, and get the scope and any rebate paperwork in writing.
