ESS Contracting Corp is not really pointed at homeowners. Its LinkedIn page describes a licensed environmental specialty and demolition contractor headquartered in Lawrence, qualified as minority-owned (MBE-DBE), SBA 8(a) and HUBZone certified — the shape of a firm built for public work. Federal contracting listings line up with that: the company appears as a contract recipient under the name Environmental Specialty Contractor, with Defense Department awards recorded for 2019. The consumer trail is a single review, and it is old and angry. In November 2018 a 1★ reviewer wrote that the company did not pay his invoices, did not return calls, and had "every excuse in the book" when reached — a complaint from someone owed money rather than a homeowner describing finished work. Eight years on, it is still the only rating on the Google page. The Better Business Bureau grades the business A+ without accrediting it, lists it under Home Builders with four employees, and publishes no reviews, complaints or government actions. The dates do not line up across sources. LinkedIn says the company was incorporated in April 2012, the BBB says the business started in January 2014, and a corporate listing site puts incorporation at July 2020. The BBB profile also carries a different Lawrence address and phone number than the 60 Island Street address the federal listings use. For demolition or environmental work, treat what is public as thin and dated: ask for recent projects of your type, documentation of the bonding, licensing and certifications the company advertises, and payment terms in writing — the one complaint on record is about money.
