Esquire Moving is a Boston-based company, with offices in Brighton and around Greater Boston plus by-appointment locations from New York to Philadelphia, that says it's been running moves since 2013. On Google it holds a 4.7-star average from 205 ratings — a big enough number that it's actually saying something. What shows up again and again, including in this year's reviews, is careful handling of the harder parts of a move: fragile electronics and glassware wrapped with care, furniture handled without damage, and long-distance jobs — one reviewer's move from Massachusetts to North Carolina this January — completed with named crews credited for showing up on time and getting it done. The thing worth knowing before you book is billing. A review from this past April describes being quoted $405 for a 3-hour minimum with travel time included and a 3% cash discount promised — then told at the end of the job that travel time was never included and being charged $680 instead. That's not an isolated complaint: disputes over quoted-versus-final pricing and what's included in an estimate show up in reviews going back several years, alongside at least one more serious complaint about how the company handled a dispute. None of that shows up in most of this year's reviews, but it's frequent enough across the company's history to take seriously. If you hire Esquire, get every fee — travel time, stairs, any promised discount — spelled out in writing on the estimate itself, not just discussed on the phone, and confirm the final number before the truck leaves. For a straightforward local or long-distance move where the crew shows up and does careful, efficient work, the reviews back that part up consistently; it's the pricing conversation that's worth protecting yourself on.

I would not recommend Esquire Moving. I hired this company to move my office items into storage, and they quoted me $405 for a minimum of 3 hours. They specifically told me their travel time to my location was included, and that I would receive a 3% discount if I paid cash, so I made sure to have cash ready.

However, at the end of the job, before even reaching the 3-hour minimum, they told me I owed $680. When I asked why, they suddenly claimed that travel time was NOT included, even though that was clearly stated when I booked them.

This felt dishonest and misleading. They gave a reasonable quote to secure my business, then demanded significantly more money at the end.

I will never hire this company again, and I strongly suggest others stay away unless you want unexpected charges and unpleasant surprises.
