The most recent thing anyone has written about DCR Building & Remodeling is a one-star. In June 2026 a customer who hired the company for a bedroom-and-bath addition posted the same account on Houzz and on Angi: the job was botched, the money was kept, they lost in arbitration, and the company, they say, has declared bankruptcy. That is one customer's telling, not a court record — but it is the newest thing on file, and the Better Business Bureau's page points the same way. BBB carries a single alert on the Lynnfield listing, "Out-of-Business known or suspected", and shows the firm as Not Rated for exactly that reason. That is a hard turn from what came before. Four detailed five-star reviews from 2019 describe a careful, family-friendly outfit. One customer that September wrote about a full and half bath done at once around a dog and three small children — nails vacuumed nightly, the toilet put back at the end of every working day, and Mark, the lead carpenter, letting the six-year-old lay a few shower tiles. In July 2019 another said Dave Rugato had handled small and large jobs for them across ten years, including a complete kitchen renovation, and called him detail-oriented and patient. In April 2019 a basement bathroom came in at a good price and, that reviewer said, above expectations. The last good word is from August 2023: a kitchen and bathroom renovation that ran smoothly, with help picking finishes and fixtures. The scores themselves disagree. Angi and HomeAdvisor both show 4.2 from five ratings; Houzz shows 3.0 from two; BBB shows nothing at all. One more thing before you dial. The phone number on all of these listings now answers for DCR Construction LLC, working out of Middleton rather than Lynnfield — same owner, Dave C. Rugato, who says on his site that he began contracting in 1992 after a Wentworth Institute of Technology degree and that the company is veteran owned and operated. The 2019 work speaks well for the craft. But the June 2026 complaint and the BBB alert are the current facts, and they are the ones that could cost you money. Before you sign anything, confirm which legal entity you are contracting with, get current proof of registration and insurance, and ask directly about the arbitration and the bankruptcy.
Simple bedroom and bath addition. Screwed up the job, kept our money, lost in arbitration, now declaring bankruptcy. Lost a lot of money.

Dave and the crew came out and renovated a bathroom and kitchen. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Dave was very helpful in helping me to pick out my finishes, appliances and bathroom fixtures. I was impressed with DCR's new office and samples room, I found it very helpful to hold something in my hand and see the colors in person vs on a computer. I would definitely recommend Dave and his crew to help others thinking about renovations.
Great team of professionals providing expert advice and workmanship. Will hire them again.
I will get into the details below, but I want to lead off by saying I would highly recommend DCR Building and Remodeling for any home project! Me and my wife needed a full and a half bath remodeled, including replacement of all of the drain pipes due to their age, as well as wear and tear over the years. We gave Dave Rugato a call back in the May timeframe and he promptly came out to take a look at the project. He then came back to us to meet us in person to go over the quote, the details of the project, etc. We were comfortable with the price, as well as his approach to do things the right way, always preaching quality, so we signed on for the project. Dave and his team started the project in a timely fashion. We had a house full of a dog, plus three little kids (6, 4, 1) so cleanliness and having folks in the house I could trust was of utmost importance. My kids would look forward to Mark coming to the house to begin work every single day. He even had my son lay a few tiles in the shower, which my 6-year old still points out are the ones he put there! Pretty awesome stuff. Dave and his team members (led by Mark) did a great job with the demolition, making everything fast and being sure they cleaned up at the end of each day. Vacuuming for nails, putting the toilet back at the end of every working day, were little things that went a lot way to helping us not have to vacate the house while we had both bathrooms being done simultaneously. Everything came together timely and it was great to see the whole thing to take shape over time! Needless to say, the full and half bath are perfect and exactly what we wanted! DCR Building and Remodeling did two full bathrooms for our in-laws, as well as another full bull bathroom for a friend of ours in town, and the experience was just as positive as ours. We will certainly have DCR Building and Remodeling back for a future project. Thank you for our amazing new bathrooms and for having a fantastic crew that truly knows how to work around a family.
