The name Sonny keeps turning up next to Wayne Dao's in review after review — his father, by several accounts, and the second set of hands on nearly every job. Dao Construction has worked out of Fenton Street in Dorchester since at least 2018, and its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license (#194890) checks out as active against the state registry. The last six months brought five new reviews, and every one is a five-star account of real carpentry work: a kitchen where a pantry and the wall between the kitchen and dining room came out, replaced with cabinets, countertops, tile, backsplash, and a half bath; a bathroom re-floored and re-tiled over a single holiday weekend, ready to use by Monday; a sistered attic beam alongside a new kitchen vent fan; and new windows, doors, and trim work for a customer referred by a neighbor whose sunroom Wayne had built. The refrain across all five is the same — on time, attentive to detail, and responsive when something else comes up. That isn't new. Google shows a perfect 5.0 across 22 ratings and Angi shows 4.7 from 53, with an 'Approved' badge Angi awards only for sustaining a 4.5-plus average over time. Decks, flooring, and tile work show up again and again across that longer history alongside the general carpentry and small additions Dao Construction gets hired for. One account breaks the pattern: an Angi review describes a job left unfinished, with damaged flooring and other problems — a serious complaint sitting alone against a record that's otherwise close to uniform five stars. It's one voice out of dozens, but worth raising directly before signing anything. The company also isn't BBB-accredited and carries no BBB rating, though BBB lists it at 12 years in business. For a kitchen or bath refresh, a deck, or general carpentry, the licensing checks out and the recent run of five-star jobs backs it up — just get the scope and payment schedule in writing, given that one job that didn't go as planned.
