Cobblestone's crews take on the jobs that get worse once the walls come down. A December 2016 reviewer hired them to ready a 1952 family house for sale, and the work ran more than a year as structural problems surfaced: a third story with two bedrooms and another full bath, an expanded master with a new bathroom, new sewage, gas and water lines, a re-cut driveway, gas heat and central AC, a gutted basement turned into a family room — and, that reviewer wrote, the house still kept its original shape and appearance. The company works out of 29 Massachusetts Ave in Boston and says it has been building and managing construction for over 20 years, from Boston to Cape Cod, with a stated specialty in historic renovation and residential waterfront development. Its Houzz portfolio runs the same way: South End and historic brownstones, a Jamaica Plain house, a Barnstable waterfront estate. The praise is consistent in kind. An architect at Studio DRAW, writing in December 2016 during a large Boston gut renovation, called them team players who produce results. A January 2017 client described a bathroom where demolition turned up the usual old-building surprises and the finish still landed. A 2016 homeowner had them repair fire damage and upgrade a kitchen, and noted they cleaned up every day. On Google in September 2019, a kitchen-remodel customer singled out the backsplash. The one bad account is also the most recent, and it is worth reading before signing. In July 2021 a customer wrote that repointing on their brownstone was, in their words, beyond terrible, and that when they asked for the mistakes to be fixed they were told the person they had dealt with did not own the company — his wife, an attorney, did — and to take it up with her. Masonry repointing is a different craft from the interior renovation the rest of the record describes; if your job is exterior masonry, ask who actually performs it and how a callback gets handled. Licensing is worth a direct question. BuildZoom lists an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #176274, at this same address and phone but under the name Cobblestone Management Group Inc, and the Houzz profile shows unlimited construction supervisor and home improvement contractor credentials with no numbers attached. Ask which legal entity signs your contract and get its registration number. For a full gut, an addition, or a period house that needs an experienced hand, the older accounts here are detailed and unusually consistent. Ask for two jobs finished in the past couple of years, and put the entity and the scope in writing.
Had this company do a repointing of our brownstone. It was beyond terrible. When I asked him to fix it mistakes. He said oh I actually don’t own the company my wife does and she’s an attorney deal with her.
Used Cobblestone for a kitchen remodel and was very happy with the results. The backsplash was a real wow factor when people entered the house.
Perfection 👍
Cobblestone Group did an incredible job renovating my somewhat dated bathroom. As is often the case with older buildings, issues were encountered when demolition began. Cobblestone not only navigated these issues smoothly but provided an incredible end result. You can rest assured that Cobblestone works with the A Team of professionals to get the job done. The end result of my bathroom renovation makes me happy I decided to use Cobblestone. Should I decide to renovate again in the future, I would not hesitate to call this great team.
After living in the house on Rockwood Street since its construction in 1952, my mother-in-law reluctantly moved out and agreed to sell. In preparation for the sale, we hired Cobblestone to completely renovate and upgrade the property. Most of the original bathrooms and the kitchen were still there and very little work, except for basic maintenance, had been done on the house. Brian and his team worked for more than a year on a total renovation project that increased in scope as new issues were discovered with the basic structure of the house. They cut a new driveway and completely re-landscaped the front gardens and backyard. New sewage, gas, and water lines were laid. They added a third story to the house that included two beautiful bedrooms and another full bath. The master bedroom was expanded to construct a new modern bathroom. The kitchen was renovated to the latest standards with modern appliances. They built a new deck on the back of the house. All windows were replaced and the front entrance was completely redesigned. The basement, which had been used as a small apartment, was gutted and remodeled into a family room and storage space. Brian's guys installed gas heat and central AC. An amazing project! And yet at the end of it all the house still retained its original shape and appearance. (See pictures on their site.) The house went on the market last year and was immediately snapped up by a new family with small children. My mother-in-law died recently happy in the knowledge that her beloved house would be home again to children. We cannot recommend Cobblestone more highly. A professional and talented team of builders and artisans led by an experienced and honest contractor.
