Bay State Paving is a Braintree asphalt outfit that does one thing: paving. Driveways are the bread and butter, alongside private roads, walkways, driveway drainage and commercial lots across the South Shore and Metro Boston. It is an old, small operation — trading since 1954 by its own account, an S corporation with about four employees run by Robert McDonough, and rated A+ by the BBB without being accredited. The recent reviews all tell the same story, and it is a good one. A May 2026 customer says Bob and the team did a great job on a new driveway and paid attention to detail throughout. An April 2026 customer describes the owner coming out personally, quoting reasonably, starting as soon as the snow melted, and finishing the driveway in a single day — tidy enough that neighbours on the same street signed up while the crew was there. Google sits at 4.5 stars across 16 ratings. On Reddit, a Quincy homeowner asking for driveway sealcoating recommendations named Baystate as the company that does theirs. The thing to settle before you call is coverage. The website lists Norwell, Marshfield, Duxbury, Pembroke, Cohasset and a dozen other towns, but the record also contains a one-star review complaining specifically about service-area coverage on the South Shore. With a four-person crew, confirm they will actually travel to your town and when they can fit you in.
