When it snows in Lynn, Zacarias Excavation is the number people call at 6am. Four separate customers writing in January 2026 described driveways, walkways and buried cars cleared within hours of a text — one had been stuck for days, another had a driveway with nowhere to put the snow and got it scraped down to the asphalt in a single visit, at what they called a fair price. The rest of the year the work is heavier. BBB records a sole proprietorship at 11 Cobbet Pl started in July 2019, owner Nelvin Zacarias, categorised as an excavating contractor; Thumbtack lists the same business as Zacarias Excavation & Masonry with two employees and 46 project photos. A 2023 customer described a 120-foot natural-stone retaining wall and roughly thirty feet of levelling that turned a two-stepped, sloped backyard flat, and a 2024 client in Winchester had a stone-and-cement wall built that came out as drawn. This July a large granite boulder came out of a yard; in June six or seven boulders were moved and set stable and correctly oriented. Speed is the other repeated note. An April 2025 customer spoke to him at 7 PM, had an estimate on site by 8:30 the next morning, and the concrete work finished the day after — a Sunday. The thing to weigh against all that is a September 2025 one-star account of a driveway install: weeds coming through the surface, the company blaming the asphalt plant, a promise to come back and replace it, and then, the customer wrote, no returned calls. That is not an isolated shape. The Better Business Bureau grades the business B-, and says plainly that the grade is because it did not respond to a complaint filed against it. HomeAdvisor's own page states the business offers no warranties and no free estimates. Thumbtack's 23 ratings carry a small tail too — 5% at three stars, 4% at one. Worth knowing before you compare quotes: the 5.0 averages on Angi and HomeAdvisor are the same two reviews by the same authors, mirrored across both sites, not two independent records. A strong call for excavation, grading, stone retaining walls and snow work, especially if you need someone on site quickly — the reviewers who wanted a hole dug, a yard levelled or a wall built are consistently satisfied.
