Sunrun's five-star reviews are almost all about a salesperson. Its one-star reviews are almost all about what happened after the panels went up. The national residential solar company runs its Massachusetts work out of an office on Progress Road in Billerica, selling mostly through door-to-door canvassing and long-term leases. Its Google listing carries 4.3 stars across 290 ratings. The warm reviews are specific about people rather than work. In August 2026, a homeowner said Samuel Silveira was the first rep who gave them the confidence to go ahead. Reviewers in 2024 and 2025 named Andrew Smith, Sean Harper, Maria Angarita and Ashley LoGrasso, describing options laid out patiently and installs that landed. One October 2025 reviewer whose system sat dead for nearly two months — told it wouldn't be fixed until the end of August — still gave five stars, because a named service rep took it on and got it moving. The complaints go the other way, and they are current. In November 2024, a homeowner described six months of waiting for the panels to be switched on, multiple punctures in the roof front and back, the wrong brackets used, and a failed electrical inspection. In January 2025, a customer said problems raised during installation were ignored and the sales rep stopped answering texts once the system was live, after being attentive throughout the sale. A May 2026 reviewer titled their review "Aggressive Sales & Predatory Math" and urged other homeowners to check the numbers before signing. A February 2026 reviewer said the pitch promised a locked-in low rate for 25 years and that everything about it turned out wrong. Nine of the sixteen reviews posted in the last six months are complaints. The canvassing itself keeps surfacing. A July 2026 reviewer said a door-knocking salesman quoted a price that a competing Boston installer beat by tens of thousands and kept calling after the appointment was cancelled; a September 2024 reviewer said a manager turned up at their house after they had asked to be taken off the list; a July 2026 reviewer traced their contract back to a 2021 Vivint Solar solicitor whose promises did not hold once the account moved to Sunrun. On Reddit — mostly threads outside Massachusetts, so read it as other people's roofs — commenters describe lease escalators running to 3% a year, weeks or months chasing a technician, and BBB complaints filed to get repairs done. One commenter defended the model, pointing out that Sunrun carries the liability for the equipment and repairs it like a utility would. If you go this route, the sales conversation isn't where the risk sits. Read the escalator and the production guarantee line by line, get the roof-work and service-response terms in writing, and price at least two local installers against the lease before you sign anything.
“One of their techs damaged our gutters and it took a BBB complaint to get them to fix it.”
“His system wasn't producing but his wife pays the bills so he didn't really know, no one was monitoring.”
“File a BBB complaint and threaten to cancel due to a contract violation on their end for an inoperable system.”
“They fucking suck donkey dick everywhere in the country. They are like one of the few providers left and now we all have to deal with their monopolized bullshit. My system wasnt responding a few months ago, and I called to ask what happened. They said they couldnt tell me anything, but could send a rep out for 600 dollars just to take a look. My fucking electricians and plumbers dont even cost that much to come out and look. It was also just a tripped circuit breaker. Fuck sunrunner clowns.”
“My system has been switched off since about October/November when the panels were reinstalled after my roof was replaced.”
Since purchasing my home, I’ve received many solar panel offers with attractive pricing and incentives. However, none of the representatives gave me the confidence I needed to move forward with the project. Samuel Silveira was clear, honest, and attentive from the very beginning. He took the time to carefully evaluate our home’s energy needs and designed a system that prioritized long-term savings rather than simply making a sale. His transparency and professionalism made all the difference. The installation itself was completed by a highly professional team using top-quality equipment, and everything was finished on schedule with great attention to detail. As an added bonus, my package included valuable extras, such as an EV charger and a home security system which made the overall value even better for our family.
Andrew is a great Sales Manager. He is responsive, professional, knowledgeable, and communicative. It’s clear he loves what he is doing. After the solar panels are installed he continues to check in periodically to see make sure everything is running well. The company is a great one too! I’m extremely satisfied!
Is there any way to be put on a list of "not interested" to prevent sales people from coming to my door? It's constant, annoying, and they don't understand what the word "no" means. If I ever become interested in solar panels, I can assure you I won't ever purchase anything from this company simply for being annoying every spring and summer. Just yesterday one of them said he looked at my electric meter and how high it is. Why is a stranger walking through my driveway looking around the side of my house? Next time I see this happen I'm calling the police and will be having these clowns trespassed.
Rang my doorbell at 9:20 PM in the pitch black. Why would anyone tell teenage employees to do this? Unfair to all involved.
I was assisted by Samuel Silveira—fast and efficient service; he is very knowledgeable, and we are very happy!
