Stewart Painting has been swinging brushes across Cape Cod, the South Shore, and Nantucket since Sheldon Stewart started painting houses in high school — the company says it got its start in 1984 and has stayed in the family since, run today out of a Hingham office with relatives, including nephew Todd Piknick, the production manager, still on staff. The jobs people call them for are exterior repaints with the carpentry that comes attached — scraping, sanding, replacing rotted trim — plus a separate power-washing crew for houses, decks, and fences. Fifty-one reviews have piled up across Google and Houzz since 2021: 4.8 stars from 64 Google ratings, 4.7 from 30 on Houzz. Ten of those reviews landed in just the last six months, and only one wasn't positive. The names repeat — Wayne's crew gets credited for arriving on time and being careful with prep before painting, and power-washing techs Timothy and Tim get singled out for catching spots homeowners hadn't noticed on their own. The exception is worth reading before calling: a June 2026 review says an exterior paint job started peeling after six months and the company stopped responding. It sits alone against a long run of five-star reviews, but it's specific and recent enough that it's worth asking directly what the warranty on a repaint actually covers. On paper, the license checks out — the state's contractor registry lists its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license as active — and the company also carries OSHA 30 and lead-safe RRP certification, relevant for any home built before 1978. For an exterior repaint that includes rot repair and a wash beforehand, the history here runs deep and holds up consistently. The one thing worth nailing down before signing is what happens if the paint doesn't last, given that at least one recent customer says it didn't.

Stewart Painting did a great job! My house has stained shingles so extra care has to be taken with a house wash. They also did the deck, railings, and fence. Highly recommended!
