Fifty-five building permits, nearly all of them in Arlington — that is the substance of what is publicly known about Showcase Home Builders. BuildZoom's permit records run from 2013 to 2021 and read like a tour of one town: new single-family houses, second-story additions, and whole-house renovations. Alan Simao founded the company and runs it from Mass Ave in Arlington. By the company's own account he came back to home construction after September 11th, leaving a career as an aircraft mechanic and drawing on a family legacy in the trade, and has built and sold more than 65 custom homes locally over 20-plus years. That is what it says about itself, not anything independently confirmed. Houzz lists 24 posted projects — named Arlington houses in Bungalow, Craftsman Colonial, Dutch Colonial, Modern Farmhouse and Contemporary Traditional styles — and a service area of Arlington, Belmont, Lexington and Winchester. BuildZoom and Houzz both note they hold no reviews for the company, and the only outside word is a February 2026 r/ArlingtonMA commenter who said they had been impressed by Showcase Home Builders but wasn't sure it does additions. The Arlington permits say it does, repeatedly. On licensing, be precise about what is and isn't known here. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company as active, plus an earlier registration it records as inactive and at one point cancelled. Those are a directory's records, not a registry check — worth confirming with the state's Consumer Affairs office before you sign anything. The right call to look at for a new build or a substantial addition around Arlington, where its permit history is deepest. Ask for direct references and recent addresses, because there is no public review history to lean on.
