Fifty written reviews spread across three platforms, and the same two words keep coming back: on time, on budget. Royal Contracting is Dermot McElligott's Dedham outfit — he founded it in 1999 after remodeling houses in Ireland, and its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in his own name. Bathrooms and kitchens are the bread and butter, with decks and porches close behind. A February 2025 Angi customer laid out the whole job: the quote came in well under three other contractors, Dermot was straight about price and schedule, the crew hung a dust divider so the family could stay in the house, and the carpenter cut slivers of tile to close a gap at the door frame. A 2023 reviewer described an IPE deck and pergola with a cable rail system delivered at the quoted cost; a 2022 one, a fir deck replaced with Azek. The loyalty runs long. One 2022 reviewer said they had used the company for exterior and interior work on an older home for a decade; another called 2022 the second time hiring them. A Dedham neighbour named the company on Nextdoor in May 2025 when someone asked for a builder — no detail beyond the name and number, but that is word of mouth nobody solicited. The honest caveat sits in the older half of the file. A January 2011 HomeAdvisor customer, who chose the company for its grasp of an older building's quirks rather than its price, reported that roughly six months after the kitchen and bath remodel finished they had to bring in another plumber for a leak at the kitchen faucet, refit the wastebasket drawer, and deal with the overflow drain. That is one dated account against a long run of clean ones, but it is the kind of complaint worth asking about: how call-backs and punch-list items are handled after final payment. Angi puts them at 4.9 from 145 ratings, HomeAdvisor at 4.7 from 30, Porch at 5.0 from 14, and the BBB grades them A+ with accreditation since 2009. Good fit for a full bathroom or kitchen renovation in the Dedham-Newton-Needham belt where a small, owner-present crew matters more than scale.
