Residential Landscape & Masonry is a Scituate hardscape and design-build outfit run by Charlie C. — "Boss Man" on the company's own site — who says he has 35-plus years building patios, walls, and outdoor lighting. The company, self-reported as founded in 1983, describes itself as a family operation: Chris C. runs installation and maintenance, and Otelio G. leads the hardscaping crew. It's listed as a member of the Scituate Chamber of Commerce and says it covers the South Shore towns of Cohasset, Hingham, Norwell, Hanover, Marshfield, Duxbury, and Hull. The most recent word on the work, from this spring, describes a backyard patio built around a custom sitting wall and landscape lighting, with brush cleared along the property line and pricing the customer called fair — the kind of hardscape-plus-lighting combination that shows up again and again across its Google history. That history runs deep for a company this size: 17 Google ratings averaging 4.1 stars, built from reviews stretching back to 2023. Not every review lines up with that picture, though. A handful from the past year are more critical, citing quality and follow-up concerns, and the company also sells firewood on the side — a line that has drawn separate complaints of its own. None of that shows up in anything posted in the last six months, but it's worth asking directly how Charlie's team handles a callback if something isn't right the first time. For a South Shore homeowner planning a patio, retaining wall, or landscape-lighting project, this is a company with a real, decades-long presence and specific, recent praise for exactly that kind of work — just confirm the scope, timeline, and warranty terms before signing, given the mixed marks in its own review history.

Charlie and his team did amazing work on our backyard patio. He designed a concept that he felt would work best for our property and added ideas like a sitting wall and lighting to enhance the space. He also cleared out brush along our property line which he recommended. His pricing is very fair and couldn’t recommend his team’s work enough. His team worked hard and completed the job quickly. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Residential Landscape and Masonry on future projects.

BUYER BEWARE! Advertised seasoned firewood on Facebook, Need a chain saw for a lot of it, Not seasoned wood . Charlie didn’t even respond to me, then he switched his Facebook book title on the wood. I would NOT recommend him to deal with his delivery and response was poor very!

We had a very disappointing experience working with Charlie and his company. The grass installation was poor quality—patchy, uneven, and full of rocks. The outdoor lighting has also stopped working. We reached out willing to pay for a repair and although Charlie responded once, he did not follow through and has since ignored our requests for help. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this company. Very frustrating experience.

This was our third time working with Charlie from Residential Landscaping and Masonry. We have always been impressed by RLM’s work. We decided for our third and largest project to work with Charlie. One of the most impressive parts of the process was when Charlie sent us a computer generated photo of how our patio would look finished. I’m not a good at imagining things, but once Charlie put it into pictures for us, we were sold. His crew is beyond amazing. They are very hard-working, very polite and very respective of your property. They worked every day long hours sometimes in the bitter cold, wind and rain. Every night before they leave, they clean up the property and leave everything well organized for the next day. The artists who laid out the rock pattern for our patio were true impressive. There is a very involved process of making the pattern and also making square pavers work in a circle. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I can’t recommend Residential Landscaping and Masonry enough. We are so happy with all three of our projects and will call Charlie first thing in the future if we have any more needs!

I needed masonry work and Charlie was the guy to go to. He fixed my retaining wall for a fair and honest price while providing a great product. The photos speak for themselves, he even put lights on the wall so it can be seen at night!
