Those yellow Pilgrim Paving signs at the ends of South Shore driveways turn up in the reviews themselves — a 2023 customer used them as shorthand for how much of the local asphalt this Hanover company has laid. It works residential and commercial jobs across the South Shore, Boston and the Cape: driveways and parking lots, plus sealcoating, walkways, berms and line striping. The Better Business Bureau's file dates the business to 1976 and its LLC incorporation to 2019, with six employees, and grades it A+ while noting it is not BBB accredited. The company describes itself as family-owned. Owner Bill Dyer keeps turning up in reviews by name, which is unusual at this size. A July 2026 customer traced the whole job — the demo crew, then the digging, pitching and grading, down to the hand-operated roller at the end — and had something kind to say about every person on it. In June 2026, another wrote that Dyer steered them away from what they'd asked for, suggested a change based on experience, and turned out to be right. Speed comes up repeatedly: a May 2024 homeowner watched a seven-man crew tear out and replace a long, 25-year-old driveway in seven hours. An April 2025 reviewer liked the office side too — digital quote, text reminders, a job coordinator to call. Two things deserve attention before you sign. First, pitch and drainage: a June 2024 reviewer said the owner came back to address water that iced up over winter and, while it improved, ice still formed between parked cars. Settle the grading and where water will run, in writing, before the trucks arrive. Second, and separate from the paving: a June 2022 article on grimytimes.com reported that William E. Dyer, 57, the owner of a commercial and residential paving business in Hanover, was sentenced to a year and a day in prison in a tax evasion scheme — and the BBB profile lists Mr. William Dyer as Pilgrim Paving's owner. Nothing customers have written ties that to the work itself, but it is public reporting a homeowner should know about. Scheduling has slipped now and then. A 2021 reviewer said nobody called back about an estimate, and a 2022 customer who still gave five stars for the finished job was left waiting past a two-hour arrival window with no heads-up. For a driveway tear-out, a widening, or a small parking lot on the South Shore, the paving draws steady and specific praise across five years of reviews. Ask for the drainage plan, confirm the date the week before, and get the full scope — depth, base, edge treatment — written onto the quote.
“Owner of Hanover Paving Company Sentenced for Tax Evasion Scheme ... A recent scheme involving the owner of a commercial and residential paving business in Hanover, Massachusetts, has come to an end. William E. Dyer, 57, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison and one year of supervised release for his role in a tax evasion scheme. ... According to court documents, from 2014 through 2018, Dyer diverted payments from Pilgrim Paving customers by directing customers to write checks to him and then cashing those checks.”
Excellent staff, from our first foreman on site, Bill, with what I call the demo crew to the several men who joined the process of digging, pitching and grading to the necessary but tedious hand operated rolling machine at the end, for the finished product. Everyone was kind, hardworking, respectful and cleaned up so well at the end, you would never know they were there.
The owner Bill Dyer was totally on point from the first time we said hello until the very last sweep of a broom. He suggested a change to what I thought I wanted based on his experience and he was 100% correct. I could not be happier with the end result. I highly recommend Pilgrim Paving for their professionalism, Work ethic and caring about getting everything done the right the first time.
Provided high quality and value residential driveway service in Norwell MA. All current new equipment, plenty of knowledgeable pleasant manpower. A pleasure to work with from quote to completion.
We couldn't be more pleased with the work Pilgrim Paving did on our driveway. It was in terrible shape - potholes, cracks, and uneven spots that made it a real eyesore and hard to drive on. From the first meeting to the final paving, their team was professional, courteous, and clearly experienced. They arrived on time, explained the entire process in detail, and completed the job efficiently. The end result looks fantastic. The surface is super smooth, no more bumps or cracks, and it really makes a difference in how the whole front of the house looks. Super happy with how it turned out. If you need your driveway paved or repaired, I’d definitely recommend them!
