Start with the number that matters: Patriot Painting & Carpentry sits at 2.5 stars on Google from six ratings, and its small public review trail leans negative. The company is based in Swampscott, and on LinkedIn it says it has more than 15 years of experience handling interior and exterior painting plus repair of rotted and water-damaged wood. A public business listing names Amilcar E. Garcia Nolasco as president. That paint-and-carpentry mix is what people appear to hire it for. A few web mentions speak well of house painting with repair work, but the larger pattern on Google and Yahoo is tougher: complaints about disputed or incomplete work, painting results homeowners were unhappy with, and trouble getting responses once something went wrong. Because there are only a handful of public reviews, each complaint carries weight. This is not a case where a long stream of detailed praise cancels out a few bad jobs; the negative comments make up a large share of what homeowners have said in public, and the themes repeat around workmanship, communication, and follow-through. Before hiring, get the carpentry scope in writing down to what is being repaired or replaced, especially if paint work and rot repair are bundled together. Confirm the schedule, who is supervising the job, and exactly how callback issues are handled if the finish or repair needs attention later. Patriot Painting & Carpentry makes more sense for homeowners who are prepared to pin down the details before work starts than for anyone looking for a lightly managed project. If you call, confirm what carpentry is included, when the crew will be there, and who answers if there is a problem after payment.

I hired Patriot Painting & Carpentry in December to repair and paint my rotting deck railing. Initially, I expressed concern that it was too cold for painting and suggested waiting until spring, but they assured me it would be fine and even promised to return in the spring for any necessary touch-ups. At first, the railing looked good, but after a few months, the paint began to bubble and peel. I reached out to Maricio, who had made the commitment to return, but I was completely ignored despite multiple attempts to contact him. I saw that my messages were read but never responded to, which was extremely frustrating. Not only was their service overpriced, but the quality of work did not justify the cost. Now, a year later, the railing is rotting again, meaning their "repair" was essentially useless. I feel completely taken advantage of and would not recommend Patriot Painting & Carpentry to anyone looking for reliable, quality work. Extremely disappointed.

Bad experience. We had a new master bath that needed walls, ceiling and trim painted. We were scheduled for a Monday, Monday came and went and no show. I texted and called them with no response. They finally texted back on Thursday and said they would be coming over on Friday. I bought the paint for the walls (and primer). When they came they said they wanted to use their primer. The bathroom cost $1000 and they charged $125 for their primer and trim paint. When I asked how those materials cost $125 they said the paint was $75 a piece. The Behr Marquee paint we bought was $40/gallon. We went back and forth and he couldn't explain why there's was $75/gallon. The work itself was sloppy too. I got to spend Sunday cleaning up the paint splatter and will have to redo some of the painting since they didn't let the first coat dry before applying the second coat.

Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. Paid over a thousand dollars to have the trim on 6 windows sanded and stained. They sent one man over for less than 2 days. He did not sand enough before staining and now it looks worse than before. We communicated that we were not happy with the result. They came to remove their equipment, leaving trash in the yard and cashed the check with no follow up. Now we must fix what was done.
