Thirty-one Google ratings, all of them five stars, and one pattern under them: people hire Milton Alfaro for a small repair and then keep calling him back. Milton Carpentry Services works out of Lynn; the company says it is family-owned, eleven years in business, and covers Beverly and the North Shore. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in the company's own name. The jobs customers describe are the awkward middle ground a lot of crews skip. A couple in Ipswich had him replace an enclosed-porch roof and build a hardwood deck to match its dimensions. Another homeowner, buying a condo as-is, had stair treads and risers rebuilt after carpet removal left the wood damaged. In a November 2025 review, a customer wrote that the front porch, columns and basement door trim went well enough that they hired him again for attic framing. Writing in October 2025, another had spent weeks trying to get anyone to even look at three small repairs; he came out the day they called and started the next. The front end is what recent reviewers keep raising: a quick reply, options explained, a quote back fast, a schedule that holds. Eight reviews have landed in the last six months, none negative, and they say the same things the older ones do — clear pricing, tidy sites, work finished as described. One customer in January 2026 had water coming in from an ice dam and said he came by immediately and fixed it within hours. Two things are worth weighing before you read the five stars as unanimous word of mouth. Some of the warmest endorsements come from people with a standing relationship rather than a one-off job: a customer of over twenty years, an architect who has used him on client projects for eight, and on r/northshore a commenter who said plainly that he used to work with him. Those are trade references, not a neighbor's tip. The arm's-length Reddit signal is real too — in a June 2026 thread on r/northshore, one person said they could not recommend the company strongly enough, and another said the price was known up front, adding that on demolition work you can't be certain what you'll find until the existing structure is opened, but that Milton raised any added cost beforehand. The right call for finish carpentry, decks, stairs, and the mid-size renovation that has to match what's already in the house. Pin down the scope and how change orders get priced before demolition starts, and ask for the written schedule reviewers keep mentioning.
“Well, my experience here was that I knew the price up front. If there were any added costs Milton discussed it beforehand.”

“Has anyone used Milton Carpentry in Lynn?”
I would rate Milton Carpentry Services with 10 stars if I could. My wife and I live in Ipswich and hired Milton to replace the roof on our enclosed porch and build a hardwood deck matching the dimensions of the roof. From his first visit to the final nail, Milton was always extremely knowledgeable, patient and easy to work with. He showed up when promised, kept us informed at each stage of the project and always left the site neat and clean each day. It was immediately apparent that Milton and everyone in his crew were exceptionally competent and skilled, and that his quality standards were first rate. He’s probably the best we’ve ever worked with. I would not hesitate to hire him for any carpentry, building or remodeling job.
I recently purchased a condo “as is” knowing there would be potentially a lot of fixing up & repairs to be made. I hired Milton to replace my stair treads & risers after having an original rug removed from the whole staircase. The staples used left the wood damaged & unable to be sanded or repainted. When he came to do a consult, we discussed he would be building a new banister, spindles, and installing a new railing to go along the outside for safety, as the existing one was not to code height. Milton sent me a proposal with what we discussed within a few days. I agreed to move forward feeling confident he would get the job done as explained. When he first began the project, he immediately made me aware of his concerns, once he saw what was beneath the few steps he removed. He explained the support under the steps was not done correctly and that the framing of the staircase was in question as a result. He advised me to consider demoing the whole staircase to start new, as the integrity was not going to hold up eventually even with new treads /risers. He strongly recommended I seriously think about this as an option. He revised his proposal and I agreed to trust his professional opinion. It took 1 day to demo the staircase and 1 day to frame out a new one. From that day on Milton kept me informed of progress with phone calls & pictures of what he had done. Before the project was done, I asked for a change in how to enter into my half bath (under the stairs) Milton was able to make the necessary adjustments to meet my request and was still able to still complete the new project within a time span just under a week in half from full demo to finished. Milton also was able to install my new main front door and ensure that it was fitted and securely put into a new frame etc. These updates have already added value back into my new home! The work was finished on time and the area was also left cleaned up leaving little trace of any construction project! His finish work was well done and having that custom woodwork will add to the homes value a great deal! I would recommend Milton and feel his professionalism also adds to his craftsmanship. His honesty about the condition of my stairs shows that he takes his work seriously and he didn’t want to just cover up a problem. I am Very satisfied!
Milton Carpentry was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process of our project of installing our interior jobs. Milton was incredibly responsive during the design process. During construction he was professional, clean and the results came out exactly what we wanted. All with a reasonable price. I couldn't be happier choosing Milton Carpentry and highly recommend them.
Milton was fantastic to work with! Communication was quick and clear from start to finish. His team worked efficiently and paid great attention to detail. Our finished paint job looks great and we look forward to working with him again on future projects in our home.
We would highly recommend working with Milton. He was super communicative and clear about exceptions and pricing. Milton and his team were professional and very cleanly when doing work on-site in my home, which we really appreciated! We LOVE how the work he completed at our house came out and know we will use him for future projects!! If you have a project you want done professionally and in a timely fashion, Milton is the person to reach out to!
