The clearest evidence of what McSweeney Construction can do isn't a review — it's a 2021 trade-press piece. Healthcare Design magazine covered a permanent drive-thru testing and vaccination facility the company built, with a motorised canopy over the lane and perimeter sidewall curtains for patient privacy. That is a long way from a kitchen refit, and it says something about the range. The company works out of Andover under Brian McSweeney III, and how you'd describe it depends on which page you read. Its own website is unambiguously commercial: general contracting for retail, corporate, healthcare and cannabis clients across Massachusetts, with the firm acting as the owner's agent. The BBB and Houzz listings are just as clearly residential — new construction, additions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, siding and windows; Houzz calls it a 'Residential Design Build Contractor and Home Builder' serving Boston and the north and west suburbs. Tenure differs too: the site claims over 30 years, the BBB records 26 from a 2000 start, with four employees. Only two customers have written anything. In 2018 a North End condo owner described a remodel that turned complicated when water problems surfaced in the lower levels, credited the crew with working the problem, and noted that years later Brian dug out full renovation cost records for a tax calculation on the sale. In 2015 a design firm that had worked with him on jobs from an average remodel to a multi-million dollar house said he delivered what he promised, when he promised. The BBB grades the company A+ but also records that it is not BBB accredited, and Houzz lists Massachusetts licence CS 67933 — the directory's entry, not a confirmation. Two reviews, both eight years old or more, is a thin base. Ask which side of the business — commercial or residential — is taking work now, and check that licence number yourself with Consumer Affairs.
“The drive-thru testing site and vaccination facility features a motorized canopy to protect staff and patients from the elements and perimeter sidewall curtains to provide a private patient experience.”
Brian and his crew did a quite complex remodeling job in my condo in the North End of Boston. The job became quite complex due to water issues in the lower levels. I can't say enough about the effort to solve unusual issues and the ability to think "out of the box". Years later I needed details about how much we expend in renovations, since I was selling the property and needed the info for tax calculations. Brian immediately sent us all the info, in details. Outstanding company, run by a truly nice and competent guy!!
I have been working with Brian McSweeney on a large scale home remodeling project and I can;t say enough good things about him and his crew. Brian is very knowledgeable, easy going and fun to work with. He delivers what he says, when he says on time every time which is very important when dealing with disrupting a client's home and their life. From large construction of a multi-million dollar home to an average size remodelingjob I would trust Brian to come through with a well built finished product.
