Masonworks LLC is a Melrose masonry and hardscape outfit — the company homeowners call for a stone patio, a retaining wall, or brick steps rather than a full remodel. It says it's been doing this work since 2002, run today by Bruno and Junior Camara, and its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license is active and independently verified. Its Better Business Bureau profile is rated A+. The review base behind that is deep for a contractor this size: 546 ratings on Angi average 4.9, and Google and Thumbtack track the same pattern. In the last six months, nine new Google reviews came in and every one was positive, several naming the actual work — a retaining wall built with a French drain and cobblestone border, a driveway and patio rebuilt into one seamless surface instead of three mismatched ones, and a repeat customer's walkway-and-stairs replacement. A theme recurs across these: Junior showing up to quote a job within a day or two of the first call. Look further back and the record isn't unbroken. Among the hundreds of Angi ratings sit a handful of pointed complaints — one alleging code violations and rock that didn't match the contract and is now bleeding rust, another over pricing that wasn't made clear upfront, a third calling a driveway uneven — and in each case Masonworks posted a public rebuttal disputing the customer's version rather than a resolution. The company states its own age inconsistently too, citing 23 years on its website, 38 on Thumbtack, and 40 on Houzz. Thumbtack does list a passed background check for Camara Jr., the 'Junior' most reviewers mention by name. For stonework and hardscape in the Boston suburbs, the license checks out and the last six months of reviews back up what the long-term average already shows. Get the scope and total price fixed in writing before signing — that's exactly where the rare complaints start.

This was our first time working with Masonworks, and we would like to share our experience with anyone considering this company. Overall, we greatly appreciate the work they did for us. ----After our initial call for help, Junior arrived the very next day, right on time, and listened carefully to what we wanted to accomplish with our home improvement projects. For this project, we re-constructed our front stairs and added a backyard patio. We followed several of his suggestions regarding the design details, and shortly afterward received our quote. The work was completed on schedule and with excellent quality. We are very pleased with the new appearance of both the stairs and patio, and many of our neighbors have also complimented the results. ----Communication between us as customers and Junior as the project manager was smooth throughout the process. He responded promptly to our questions and concerns and kept us informed along the way. The crew members were also professional, friendly, and worked hard to ensure the final product matched our design expectations. ----The total cost of our projects was not the lowest among the quotes we considered. However, given the quality of the workmanship and the beautiful results, we believe the price was fair and reasonable. We would gladly recommend Masonworks to homeowners looking for quality craftsmanship and professional service.

I recently had Mason works build a stone wall and walkway for my property, and the results are absolutely stunning. From the very beginning, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They helped me choose the right materials and design to match the look of my home perfectly. Would get services from here again.
