Leopold & McMasters Realty works out of Allston, and judging by who writes about it, the business is finding people apartments around Boston. The praise arrives agent by agent rather than as a company. Steve Tysz collects the most of it — a February 2026 renter said he landed them an affordable Beacon Hill place, "not an easy task," and credited the agency's connections to landlords and property managers for hearing about units before they're listed. That March, another locked in a Somerville apartment within a few days. Jason Mahoney has his own following: a client moving 600 miles wrote in April 2026 that the refrain of the whole move became "let's call Jason — he'll know what to do." Ashley, Drew Varallo and Don are each thanked by name too. Speed and access are the recurring themes. Reviewers describe weekend replies, showings worked around travel, and applications turned around in hours. A July 2025 renter who had used several Boston brokers said this was the first time they felt fit mattered more than closing the deal, with the agent candid when something better was out there. Two clients who withdrew applications at the last minute still wrote in to recommend the agent who handled it. There is a real complaint on the other side. In June 2024 a renter wrote that the keys their agent handed over didn't work, that repeated attempts to reach him went unanswered, and that the landlord had no record of the early move-in they had been told was arranged. A one-line one-star rating landed in April 2026 as well, reading only "Uprofessional." Across 157 reviews since 2021 those are the outliers — 31 reviews came in over the last six months, one of them negative — but the 2024 account is specific about the handoff at move-in, which is exactly the stage where a broker's job is easy to drop. Worth knowing what these reviews are actually about: nearly every one describes an apartment rental, in Allston, Brighton, Somerville, Beacon Hill and greater Boston. The BBB grades the office A+. If you're renting in Boston — on a short timeline, from out of state, or renting here for the first time — this is a strong call, and it pays to ask for a specific agent by name rather than the office generally. Confirm in writing who is arranging key handover and move-in access, and get any early move-in date confirmed by the landlord directly.
