Land Design Associates is the design-build call in Norfolk County when a yard needs more than mowing — a full patio, stone walls, and a landscape plan built from the ground up. The company says it's been doing this work around Greater Boston for more than 30 years, founded and still run by James Egan, a Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional (MCLP #1-350) who learned the trade from a stonemason before building out a full design and installation crew. It also holds OSHA safety, International Concrete Paver Institute, and Associated Landscape Contractors of Massachusetts credentials. The name that keeps coming up in reviews is Jason, the designer several customers credit with turning a rough idea into a finished yard. This year, reviewers single out a crew that finished a large patio, stone walls, and new landscaping on time and within budget, and another praises communication so solid there were 'no headaches at all' on a home project. Snow removal and irrigation calls get similar marks for showing up when scheduled and following up afterward. Google puts the company at 4.9 stars across roughly 120 ratings, and the broader history behind that number — more than 70 reviews across five sources going back to 2021 — is deep enough that the recent praise isn't a fluke. The one recent review worth pausing on describes a design plan that wasn't followed as agreed: the wrong fence in the wrong place, brown mulch instead of the black that was ordered, and the wrong plants installed — with a follow-up maintenance visit meant to fix things not landing any better. A couple of older reviews raise a different concern: site conduct, including complaints about noise and yard debris drifting onto a neighboring property during a job. Neither is the dominant story across the company's reviews, but both are worth asking about directly before signing a contract. For a full landscape build — design, hardscaping, planting, irrigation, and the seasonal upkeep after — this is a normal-sized job for them. Get the plant list, materials, and colors specified in writing before work starts, and ask who supervises the crew day to day, since the one real complaint on file is about a plan drifting from what was agreed.

If you have lots of time and enjoy babysitting a company you hire for every single task they do, hire Land Design Associates. LDA worked on, and we agreed to, a full design for a backyard landscape project, but it was never followed. Wrong fences installed in the wrong places, things we specifically asked for are completely ignored. We had them do landscape maintenance afterwards to keep a plant warranty and that isn’t any better unfortunately. We ask for black mulch, they install brown. We send multiple emails on specific plants that need to be replaced, they install the wrong ones. This company is a mess and very poorly run.

Jason made this an incredible experience! Last fall, he came out to my little property and I was able to share my vision with him. We had a great conversation about how the property would look. He took such great care of the project and my wishes while also using his vast knowledge and experience to guide the final product. We agreed on a plan and he kept up consistent communication until the project began in early May. Jason (designer) and Ervin (product manager) were the dynamic duo during the construction/ installation phase. They were attentive to the project and took great care of my property and the neighbors. The team that installed did an outstanding job. Looking forward to working with LDA on the maintenance now. Can’t recommend more. Thank you Jason and Ervin!

The Land Design Architect, Project Manager and Crew did a spectacular job in both design and build of our large patio, stone walls and new landscaping. They not only finished on time but within budget. I very highly recommend Land Design. We are thrilled with our new patio for entertaining, surrounded by our lovely landscaping and lighting, bravo!
