Highlights

  • Google rating4.7 stars across 27 ratings
  • Hardscape focuspatios and retaining walls repeatedly cited
  • In-house crewowner says installs aren't subcontracted
  • Angi Super Service Awardself-reported 2022 honor
  • Follow-through complainta specific complaint pulls the weighted score below the star average
  • Thin citable detailmost of this read rests on one Google review

Twenty-seven Google ratings average out to 4.7, and the pattern across JM Mento Landscape Design's reviews from 2022 through 2025 keeps landing on the same kind of job: a patio poured, a retaining wall rebuilt, a yard regraded because water was pooling where it shouldn't. The company works out of Holbrook and is run by landscape designer Joe Mento, who says he's covered the South Shore, Greater Boston, and Cape Cod for more than 20 years, keeping installation crews in-house rather than handing the work to subcontractors. That multi-year record is mostly positive - a landscaping directory site separately echoes what reviewers say on Google, describing homeowners pleased with the professionalism, attention to detail, and quality of the finished work. But the weighted read across those 25 reviews comes in a step below what the star average alone suggests, and that gap traces back to a specific complaint about follow-through and responsiveness buried in an otherwise strong mix - the kind of account that should weigh more heavily than a handful of five-star write-ups when a deposit is on the line. The company's own site lists a wide menu - patios, walkways, paver driveways, retaining walls, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, pergolas, landscape lighting, fencing, irrigation, synthetic turf, and grading/drainage - and claims an Angi 2022 Super Service Award, though that's a self-reported credential rather than anything independently checked here. There's no state contractor license tied to this kind of work either way: Massachusetts doesn't license landscaping-only outfits, so a missing badge here isn't a red flag, just how the trade is regulated. For a straightforward hardscape or drainage job, the multi-year Google record and the crew's own account of keeping installation in-house are reasonable grounds for a call. For anything that spans a season - a patio that has to wait on spring sod, say - get the finish date and remaining-payment terms spelled out in writing before the crew wraps for the year.

Joe was so great to work with to get our new patio installed! He was helpful in choosing the right size and shape and gave us plenty of options for the stone, layout, and final design. He was communicative in getting the date set (with the spring rain, there was some guessing involved a few weeks out) and around when work would get started. It only took 2.5 days to get it all done and he let us know what the team was up to throughout the process. His team was awesome - they did a great job installing and the final product speaks for itself! But Joe also went above and beyond - he came by to do the final inspection and had a crew member back to put some additional loam down and clean up some debris in the driveway, which we definitely did not expect. We're so glad to have had a great space to enjoy the summer!

Contacted JM Mento for install of a patio and a play area. Joe reached out right away and was a pleasure to work with throughout the whole process. Joe worked with us to get everything we wanted for the right price and couldn't be happier with how it came out.

Joe Mento and team were very efficient. Did a great job on drainage For my yard and you will never know it’s there. Will have them come back to do my mulch in early summer. Very professional and hard working crew. I would use them again!

Mento landscaping installed a retainer wall for me a few years back ! My husband and I are extremely happy with the workmanship! They have also done ALL of our landscaping for the past 10 years!! Staff and workers are extremely professional!! I highly recommend Mento landing!! If I could rate them higher I would! Michael and Corrine Cox Weymouth

We loved our patio this summer! The design that they came up with was great and they listened to our concerns about water running away from the foundation and not towards like our previous patio. It looks awesome!
