J&E Corp is a Woburn, Massachusetts outfit that father-and-son team Eduardo and Juan started in 2016, and the work people hire them for sits squarely in hardscaping — patios, walkways, retaining walls, and the masonry and plantings that go with a full backyard rebuild. The company says it covers Woburn and towns north of Boston including Winchester, Burlington, Lexington and Wellesley, and lists gunite pools and outdoor living construction alongside its landscaping work. Its Google page carries 51 ratings averaging 4.5 stars, and the most recent one, posted this April, praised the crew for putting in a new patio, pathway and lawn after a home addition and said the client would use them again. That's one entry in a longer run of reviews stretching back to 2020 across six different sites — and that longer run is considerably bumpier than the star average alone suggests: alongside praise for patio and retaining-wall work sit a run of sharply negative accounts describing stalled, over-budget, or unfinished backyard projects. The Better Business Bureau gives J&E Corp an F, citing four unanswered complaints out of six filed against the business, and the company is not BBB accredited. That's worth raising directly before signing anything — specifically how disputes over price, scope, or timeline get resolved if a job runs long or a change comes up mid-project, since that's the recurring theme in the negative reviews. For a well-defined hardscape job — a patio, a retaining wall, a paver walkway — the crew clearly delivers when things go smoothly, and the April review suggests recent work landed fine. Get the scope, payment schedule, and timeline in writing before starting, and ask directly about the BBB complaint history and how overruns get handled.

Ed and Juan ( their entire crew) did an excellent job by putting a new patio, pathway and lawn after I built an addition. I highly recommend E&J to your next project.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY-ABSOLUTELY THE WORST We use J&E Corp for sone backyard work (grading, retaining wall, fencing) At first Eduardo seemed pretty on top of it. Once the work started, his story kept changing and the excuses started. We wanted to back yard grade level and he said it would be. When the work started, we questioned the leveling as the yard was still graded pretty steep. He said that we woudl have to pay extra!!!!!!!!!! This was in Late fall 2024 and he was going to come back in Spring 2025 and finish the remainder of the work (final grading, top soil, etc). After several attempts to call him, he would not answer and would text back saying he was away. We insisted that we had to get the work complete as we were installing a sprinkler system and getting hydroseed sprayed. As we were on a time crunch (after trying to reach him for 45 days) we got another landscaper to finish the work, costing us a lot more. (Eduardo already had our money). Once we got the new contractor, I posted a review on Google, that's when Eduardo called me asking me to take the review down. He offered to pay us back the money for the pending work if I would take the review down. I have not yet received the refund for the incompleted work!!! THis guys is dishonest. Do not use him unless you would like to lose your money.

Absolutely avoid this company — hire literally anyone else. We hired Eddie Henriquez / J&E to install a new vinyl liner, redo our patio, and add a heater. The job was supposed to take 3–4 weeks starting in late April. We are now well into the next summer, and the results are a nightmare. Liner issues: The liner was installed terribly — wrinkles everywhere, sharp spikes underneath, and the condition is visibly getting worse. Every time I look at it, I think of this company. I have full photo and video documentation. Plumbing & water problems: After they finished, we started losing water. They cut our waste pipe, and to this day I’m not sure if the leak was ever properly fixed. The two returns that do work bubble or fizz oddly. I’m relieved I didn’t pay for their initial water delivery, because it would have literally gone to waste. They also had to retrench more than once because they jumped the gun — pulling out pavers and digging trenches again — which likely caused further damage. Heater never delivered: We spent a ton on electrical to prep the space for a heater that never arrived. Months of “3–5 day” promises went nowhere. Refund promise broken: After repeated follow-ups, Eddie agreed to refund us a very reasonable portion of the cost in four installments starting toward the beginning of the year (around April–May at the latest). We gave him a lot of leeway because we doubted we’d get anything if we went public too soon. Here we are in August: we’ve only received one payment. He occasionally replies to my payment inquiries but now claims work is “slow” so he can’t pay. Bottom line: hiring them cost us money, time, and peace of mind. The workmanship is poor, deadlines mean nothing, and promises — both for work and for repayment — are not kept. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone. The deck they did was good but completely messed our pool up.

Wonderful work Very professional crew. They completed the job in a timely fashion and were kind and personable. Despite incredibly hot conditions they worked fast. Unlike many other crews who have worked in my home, they were gentleman. No one smoked on the property and they kept everything tidy.

Ed, Juan and the rest of the team did a great job. We were looking to have an existing patio in the backyard connected with our driveway and a crushed stone shed pad installed. It all came out exactly as we envisioned. They did everything in one day. Couldn’t have gone smoother. Some photos are attached (need to work on that grass next!).
