Nine Google ratings, three written reviews, and a run of Passive House apartment buildings — Haycon's name turns up far more often in project announcements than in homeowner review columns. The firm works out of Roxbury at 35 Batchelder Street and calls itself a design/build outfit built around high-performance and Passive House construction, currently prioritizing midsize multifamily and affordable housing. By its own account it was founded about 15 years ago by two Boston architects, Patrick Haydon and David Bemiss, and it says certified Passive House builders and consultants are on staff. That focus shows in who hires them. An Itemlive report in May 2026 named Haycon as general contractor on a 35-unit affordable condominium project on Market Street in Lynn. Boston Real Estate Times identified the company as general contractor on a Chelsea transit-oriented development in April 2025, and MassHousing named it on a Dorchester workforce-housing deal back in 2019. Its Houzz profile shows 27 projects and lists a Massachusetts Preservation Award. What actual customers have written is thin and split. A November 2025 Google review — posted by a fellow contractor, Rock Splitters — credits Brad and Charlie with keeping the many moving parts of a project running from start to finish. A one-star review from May 2025 tells the other story: a foreman who "would sit in his vehicle playing video games on his phone pretending to do work," and crews left unsure what to do. Three reviews across four years is not much weight on either side. One more thing to raise before signing: a public OSHA-records site lists an inspection of Haycon Building, LLC in Chelsea with two violations, both classed serious, and $11,585 in penalties. That entry sits under a slightly different company name than the Boston entity, so ask about it directly. This is a multifamily and affordable-housing builder more than a kitchen-and-bath remodeler. If you are a developer or nonprofit sponsor on a Passive House project, the track record is visible in print; if you are a homeowner, ask who will actually run your site day to day, and ask about the OSHA entry and the licence number Houzz lists, which has not been checked against the state registry.
“The project is scheduled to be completed by 2027 and is being developed by Boston Real Estate Collaborative (BREC), with Haycon serving as general contractor and Monte French Design Studio (MFDS) as architect.”
“The project was delivered by a multidisciplinary team including H+O Structural Engineering, BLW Engineering Inc., Michael D’Angelo Landscape Architecture, Sherwood Consulting & Design LLC, Haycon Inc., and DVM Housing Partners.”
“The general contractor is Haycon Inc., the architect is The Architectural Team, and the management agent will be Peabody Properties.”
“Haycon Building came on the Massachusetts construction scene”
“The project was conceived in 2019, when developer Haycon was looking for a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution to stay within Boston’s height limits for mid-rise construction.”
It's been a pleasure working with Brad and Charlie. They do an excellent job coordinating the many moving parts of a project to ensure everything runs smoothly from start to finish. I and the rest of Rock Splitters, Inc. look forward to working with them on many more successful projects in the future.
Find another construction company! Horrible customer service, foreman talks to you with an attitude and doesn't know his job! The foreman we had on site was very lazy he would sit in his vehicle playing video games on his phone pretending to do work. Meanwhile, his staff was all over the place not knowing what to do! Bad time management, work should have been completed 2 months ago. Don't use them for simple projects out of the question!
Great company to work with. Would recommend for any size project!
