Joe Gerrior's crews get called when the front of a house needs rebuilding in stone — patios, walkways, granite steps, retaining walls, chimneys. Across five years of Google reviews the same shape keeps repeating: a homeowner collects five or six quotes, picks Gerrior, then comes back to describe a wall that matched the one already on the property, a site swept clean at the end of each day, and a crew that finished sooner than expected. One 2024 customer put contract-to-completion at about a week. The company says it has been at this since 1990 — family-owned, run out of Woburn, with Joseph Gerrior overseeing projects himself and Christine Groves in the office. Its BBB page carries an A+ and accreditation going back to June 2003, and lists nine employees. Chimneys are a recurring thread. In a 2023 review, a homeowner wrote that after several "chimney repair specialists" pushed repointing and other costly work, Gerrior was the first to give an honest assessment of what actually needed doing. Another 2023 customer described the crew lifting a tree-crushed chimney off a dormer without bringing more brick down on the roof. Two recent reviews are the reason to slow down. In July 2026 a customer who spent over $100,000 on a full yard renovation reported that the new lawn failed across the whole yard within weeks — large dead and bare patches, shown in photos. In March 2026 another homeowner, who chose Gerrior despite theirs being the most expensive bid, said the execution was the opposite of the price tag and pointed at a lack of onsite supervision. Both complaints land in the same corner: the big multi-trade jobs, and the softscape and management side rather than the stonework itself. The Google average sits at 4.6 across 40 ratings, and the masonry-only jobs — a wall, a walkway, a set of steps, a chimney — are where the praise runs thickest and most consistent, going back to 2021. Bulkheads, cement steps and foundation repair show up regularly too, including a 2024 customer whose old fieldstone basement foundation they worked on. If you want a paver patio, a retaining wall, or a chimney rebuilt, this is a shop with a long and specific history of exactly that. For a six-figure whole-yard project, ask who the onsite supervisor will be day to day, get the lawn establishment and warranty terms in writing, and expect their number to sit at the top of your bids.
We hired Gerrior Masonry for a complete yard renovation, over $100,000 for the full project including new lawn installation. Within weeks of completion, the lawn was failing across the entire yard. Large dead and bare patches everywhere, as shown in the photos. The lawn is watered by a professionally installed irrigation system that runs on schedule and works perfectly, so this is not a watering issue. This is a problem with the installation itself. When we asked Gerrior to correct their work, they refused to do it under warranty and said they would only fix it if we paid again for time and materials. We paid six figures for a lawn that died in weeks, and the company will not stand behind its own work. As of today, nothing has been repaired. I will update this review if Gerrior makes this right.
Gerrior did a fantastic job on our new retaining wall for our "widen the driveway" project. They showed up early, worked hard all day, and got the job done within the day. Very impressive! The wall looks great, even better than we imagined. I want to especially call out how nice these guys were - Arton, Scott and Meyer - super professional and friendly. Nice job on hiring, Gerrior! I would highly recommend you work with these guys!
I have been a customer of Gerrior Masonry and Landscape for about 8 years. They have always been professional and reasonably priced. Our first experience was for them to fix a retaining wall and paver walkway botched by 2 other landscapers. They did an fantastic job matching the current pavers and stonework used. Most importantly, the area was finally functional and beautiful. This year we took on a large renovation project. Our outside work included a large stone wall (jointless with connecticut fieldstone hand cut), a main walkway to the home, replanting garden beds, window well retaining wall made of cobbles and granite, granite mailbox post, plus fixing our sprinkler system. The whole team was top notch in their professional skills, communication was timely and often with the owner of the company as Joe is heavily involved in every project. We have had numerous challenging experiences with contractors during this renovation project, but Gerrior Masonry was incredible every step of the way. I will never let another company do work outside our home except his team! Thank you to your amazing crew for all that you did to help our family. We are lifetime customers, and would recommend your company to anyone who wants the best team in the area and the most respectful of your home and family. More pictures to come as the landscape design matures.
Well it has been nearly two years since we had our backyard transformed by Joe and his team, and let me tell you, the results have been stunning. I had received approximately six quotes for our design of a retaining wall, extension of a patio, hand built and cut fireplace, installation of lighting, French drains as well as fill and grading of the entire yard. Two years later and we couldn't be more happy with the craftsmanship and work from Joe and his team of professionals. Joe went with me to hand select the materials, boarders, and stone colors. We opted for lighting under the capstones in the wall as well, which is controlled by an app. He was communicative, and responsive, handed any issues that came up with existing lines and appropriately and effectively solved the problems as they encountered them. I would absolutely hire Joe and his team again. We now have a stunning backyard, which not only creates a beautiful environment, though, also addresses our flooding issues we encountered with our new home. Thank you Joe!
After vetting several companies, we chose Gerrier because their quoting process was seamless and we moved forward with them despite them being the most expensive bid. Unfortunately, the execution was the opposite of the price tag. The project suffered from a lack of onsite supervision, with the crew frequently admitting they were unsure of how to proceed. While the final result is visually appealing, the journey was marred by poor management and a disappointing lack of respect for us as clients. For a premium price, we expected a premium experience; we didn't get it. Update: This project was part of a multiphase, two-year renovation involving roughly 10 contractors, which wrapped up at the end of 2025. Gerrior Masonry worked on the first phase only. We chose to hold off on sharing feedback for each contractor until all the work was complete. Over the course of our project with Gerrior, we raised concerns both verbally and in writing. They were responsive and eventually took the steps needed to ensure the work was completed properly.
