Soundproofing is what Delaney Drywall is actually known for. Across a decade of reviews the jobs people describe in most detail are all the same problem: a shared wall, a squeaking floor overhead, a condo neighbour you can hear. A 2015 customer who had researched the subject and interviewed several contractors said Robert was the only one who knew the concepts she had read about — he rebuilt her bedroom wall as a decoupled double-stud assembly with proper insulation, acoustic caulk, Green Glue and socket putty, and left it plastered ready to paint. A 2009 client had a second ceiling hung below the existing one, finished in a day, and booked him again for another room. In 2008 a condo owner watched him work out that the ceiling itself was bouncing under the floor above before he would install anything. The rest is drywall and small-job work: a 9x5 Boston condo bathroom blueboarded, replastered and painted in a day and a half in 2011; a 2x2 hole patched with new baseboard matched to the old trim in 2019; a vinyl window repaired rather than replaced, plus a cabinet and a doorbell, all inside the quoted time and price in 2010. Reviewers deal with Rob Delaney himself, and the words that recur are prompt, clean and reasonable. Now the caveats, and they matter. Angi and HomeAdvisor both show 4.8 from 42 — but that is one syndicated record rather than two, and none of those reviews is newer than June 2019. Google tells a different story: 3.0 from just three ratings, the most recent of which, from 2023, carries no text at all. Three ratings is far too small a sample to overturn forty-two, but a seven-year gap in written accounts sitting alongside a low recent score is a reason to check rather than assume. One reviewer in 2010 flagged the hourly billing as a drawback — no way to know where a job would land. If you are calling about soundproofing, ask for a fixed price and for a recent job you can go and listen to.
So
Great response for not a big job of repairing a 2×2 hole, some patches and installing baseboard. Repairs and patches were done quickly and cleanly, was able to accommodate my changes to the baseboards and installed new trim matching the old trim perfectly.
I have done a lot of research into soundproofing and had a quite a few contractors stop by for an evaluation and a quote over the past couple years, and Robert stood out with his friendly demeanor, level of knowledge, and being easy to talk to; he seemed to have good experience in soundproofing and actually knew soundproofing concepts I'd read up on earlier (surprisingly many other drywall contractors were either evasive in rating their confidence in their proposed projects or simply did not have good plans or knowledge of options). He worked with me on a plan to redo a wall separating my bedroom from noisy neighbors, and the result is excellent! Robert and his team have turned a single stud wall into a decoupled double stud wall, with all the right elements for soundproofing, such as quality insulation, acoustic caulk and dampening compound (both by Green Glue), socket putty, etc. Robert's choice of materials was well informed, and the quality of his work was very good, neat, and precise. I could tell he enjoys doing his work well. He cleaned up after the job was done, and the new wall was perfectly plastered--all I had left to do was to paint (which I enjoy doing myself). The total expense was very reasonable for the cost of materials and labor. I also appreciated that Robert always kept me up-to-date on his schedule and coordinated his visits--great communication. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the experience and glad that I found Robert and his team!
Robert repaired bathroom ceiling (popcorn ceiling w/cracks), cracks on walls, 9x5 foot bathroom in Boston condo. He showed up exactly on time for estimate and on work days. He installed blueboard on ceiling and replastered ceiling, walls, and painted entire bathroom (ceiling, walls, window and door). He worked with a very professional plasterer. It took half a day to sheetrock/plaster and another day to paint. The project was completed better than I expected. Robert is very professional, polite, trustworthy. Cleaned up after themselves. I'm very happy with the results and reasonable cost. I would highly recommend Robert Delaney.
The job was to fix a stress crack in a ceiling. This was a small job that got done quickly and it looks great.
