Comak Brothers Landscaping has been working out of 647 Lowell St in Peabody since 1978, according to the Better Business Bureau, which lists Barry M Comak as president. The company describes itself as a design/build and grounds-maintenance outfit — patios, stonework, pool decks, driveways, landscape lighting, outdoor rooms, water features and irrigation — and says it covers Greater Boston, the North Shore and southern New Hampshire, naming Nahant among nearly fifty towns. What customers have written publicly is both scarce and split. On Google, where the company shows 5 stars from two ratings, a homeowner writing in March 2025 described a technician named Bob starting up their sprinkler system and staying unfazed and gracious while the homeowner worked out a newly installed controller he hadn't seen before. The more recent account is the harder one. In May 2026 a self-described customer of ten years left a single star on Houzz, writing that service had always been lacking and that after an issue the company had caused, calls and emails went unanswered across dozens of messages. That is the newest thing anyone has written about the company, and it is worth raising directly. The BBB has the company on file since 1995 but issues no rating, saying it lacks sufficient information, and the business is not BBB accredited. Houzz shows just two posted projects and a stated job range of $5,000 to $2,000,000. For a North Shore homeowner, this is a long-established local landscaping firm with a design and hardscape service list and a wide stated coverage area, but almost no current public track record to weigh. Before signing anything, ask for two or three recent references you can call, get the scope and change-order process in writing, and agree up front on who your point of contact is and how quickly they will respond — that is precisely where the one recent complaint lands.
I would give a company a ZERO if I could. I have been a customer for 10 years and I have to admit, they were always lacking customer service. However at this point when an issue came up caused by Comak, they are simply not responding to my calls or emails. I have sent a dozens of messages, called-nothing! The lack of any customer service is appalling. So if you want a company that ignores you, this is definitely it.
Bob did a fantastic job starting my sprinkler system yesterday. I installed a new controller he wasn’t familiar with. He was unfazed and gracious as I figured it out for the first time.
