Cambridge Landscape says it started in 1979 with one truck and a lawnmower, and now describes itself as a full-service operation handling maintenance, design and construction, tree care, irrigation, and snow removal across Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Arlington, Lexington, Belmont, Watertown, Waltham, Wellesley, and Winchester. It's since become part of a bigger operation, listing itself on its own site as "a Sperber Company" after Sperber Landscape Companies acquired what had been an independent, family-founded business. Google shows a 3.4-star average from 47 ratings, and a broader review history running from 2021 through 2026 across six sources leans mixed to negative once the recent tone is weighted in. The last six months brought only two reviews, and both are negative. One, from May 2026, describes a tree-trimming and bush-removal job quoted in early October that went unscheduled for months, was left half-finished when a crew called it off for rain, and was followed by payment demands for work the customer says was never completed. Another, from April 2026, ties a jump in pricing directly to the Sperber acquisition, saying costs now run above what smaller local landscapers charge. Its BBB file carries an A+ letter grade, though the company hasn't sought BBB accreditation, and it's listed as a member of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce. Worth asking upfront: get a firm start and completion date in writing given the scheduling complaint above, and confirm current pricing before committing, since a recent customer felt the acquisition changed the cost structure. This reads like a large, multi-service outfit with real institutional history behind it rather than a small owner-operated crew — worth a look for bigger maintenance or tree work, but the two most recent reviews both raise real friction on scheduling and cost, so it's worth pinning down the details in writing before signing anything.

Don't call these people if you actually want work done. I got a quote from them in early October for trimming a tree and removing a bush. They would never tell me when they could schedule the work. I few days before Christmas, I got a text very early in the morning saying the crew would arrive soon and could I tell them what to do. I did not think it should be my responsibility to supervise their crew. They did part of the job and said they couldn't complete the work because it was raining. Now it is May, they have never returned, and they are sending me demands for payment. But the work is still not complete.

Since being acquired by Sperber Landscape Companies in October 2024, Cambridge Landscape Co. has moved away from its roots as a small, locally-owned family business to become a division of a national network with roughly $500 million in revenue. I feel that the price is higher than the local smaler companies.

Excellent service from Cambridge Landscaping cutting down a sad tree. Joe came out to check out the project on one day, the guys came to do the work about 4 days later, and they finished the entire project -- from cutting down the tree to chopping it into little wood chips and cleaning up -- in under 20 minutes. Very happy, plus reasonable price.
