Cabral Carpentry & Painting is the West Roxbury shop people call for a porch that has rotted through, a deck that needs replacing, or a house that needs painting — 23 permits on file, most of them porch rebuilds, deck replacements and interior remodels in Roslindale, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain and Mattapan, with a typical permit value around $14,000. Donna Cabral runs it; the company says it has served Greater Boston homeowners since 2016 with two crews, and it describes itself as a certified City of Boston women-owned business. Its Massachusetts construction supervisor licence, CS-115617, is active in the state registry, held by Donna M Cabral. BuildZoom and the BBB both list a home improvement contractor registration, 186700, for the company as well, and its BBB profile carries an A+ grade without accreditation. The written record splits hard, and a homeowner should look at both halves. On Google the company averages 3.9 across 14 ratings, with several long, warm accounts: a 2023 reviewer whose previous contractor had walked off described Cabral's crew picking the paint job up at a moment's notice and fixing deteriorating woodwork along the way; another in 2023 credited the team with a fast condo refresh before a sale; a 2022 review praised Jason Cabral on a bathroom renovation. Against that sit two of the most detailed complaints on file, both on BuildZoom, where the average is 2.5 across three reviews. In April 2025 a customer alleged $27,000 taken, three bathrooms framed incorrectly and indoor wood installed on an exterior porch. A 2021 reviewer laid out a bathtub-and-ceiling job in painstaking detail, alleging a deposit above the one-third Massachusetts permits, repeated demands for more money mid-job, no written contract, no permit pulled, and an ungrounded jacuzzi connection with an exposed live wire. A 1-star Google reviewer in early 2024 described a detailed message that was never returned, followed by repeated calls from the owner's number that hung up when answered. None of those allegations has been tested anywhere public, and the positive accounts are as specific as the negative ones. If you call them, get the contract in writing with the deposit capped at a third, confirm in writing that permits will be pulled and by whom, and insist that any electrical or plumbing tie-in be done by a licensed trade — the two complaints turn on exactly those points.
Donna Cabral is THIEF, LIAR and her crew does NOT know what they are doing. Donna gives me an estimate that has the wrong total on it. Then she starts the work, but periodically will leave a job to start another one. Her crew installed indoor wood on an exterior porch. She stole $27K from me and left me with 3 bathrooms framed incorrectly. Her crew sabotaged my property. Jason Cabral framed underneath the stairs using his professors drawings who never was on-site to frame under the stairs. If you want your money STOLEN, and No ACCOUNTABILITY she your gal. Dona is a THIEF. She took my siding and sheetrock down, and said she did not have to replace them because it's not in the contract. She takes care of her puppy better than her JOBS. Donna will find a Change of Order every week so she can pay her guys. If you want a CLOWN hire her. She is chasing her tail to fund her business.
We are big fans of the whole Cabral team! We've worked with them on a number of projects now both with their carpentry and their painting teams and they are all fantastic. Experts in their craft, I can always trust them to make smart recommendations and produce high quality work. They're communicative, on-time, and on-budget. Cabral has been great to work with as repeat customers and cares as much about their clients as they do their work. We're very happy with our recent house painting job and would definitely recommend!
Professional response. 🙄 It says alot. Maybe show concern that you were disruptive and unprofessional and address it accordingly. Called months ago to have some work done, left a detailed message but never received a call back. Apparently my number was stored though because I have received several "prank" calls from Donna's cell number. Common courtesy is to say that you have the wrong number not hang up when someone answers the phone. This happened so many times that I was forced to just block her phone number. Not returning a potential customer's phone call is one thing but this is on another level.
After another contractor ghosted me, Donna and her crew saved the day by picking up right where they left off at a moment’s notice and completed this beautiful paint job, corrected a bunch of deteriorating woodwork and even helped us make up our minds about color choices when our first choices didn’t look right. The workers were friendly, hard working, tidy and thoughtful about their approach. Thanks, Donna & Crew!
Prepping a condo for sale that needed an extensive refresh throughout the unit. Donna Cabral, and team, were highly professional and the work was transformative. Very happy with the entire process and the speed at which upgrades were done. Special shout out to Jason for innovating on the fly when problems arose,
