Belko Landscaping is a Salem, NH outfit that owner John Belko says he started in 2008, right after finishing a degree in Environmental Horticulture at the University of New Hampshire and working under other Seacoast-area landscapers. The company describes itself as full-service, covering lawn maintenance, hardscape construction, and snow and ice work for homeowners, businesses, and municipalities across Salem and the Merrimack Valley towns of North Andover, Andover, Lawrence, and Methuen. It's also listed as a member of the Salem Chamber of Commerce. On Google it holds a 4.4-star average across 44 ratings, and it turns up on seven different platforms with reviews going back to 2022 — 21 in total. Across that history, the jobs people single out for detail tend to be the bigger ones: hardscape work and full yard rebuilds, rather than routine mowing. The most recent review on file, though, posted in June 2026, tells a different story — a customer says the topsoil laid down ahead of a hydroseeding job was full of glass and metal, and that the seed never took. Two other things are worth asking about before signing anything. A 2022 federal consent order found the company had violated the Fair Labor Standards Act's overtime rules, requiring $283,020 in back wages and damages plus a $14,000 penalty the Department of Labor called intentional. Separately, more than one account — including a mention on its BBB profile — describes a company truck shedding hard debris on the highway and damaging a customer's car, with the company and its insurer declining to take responsibility. BBB itself lists Belko as not accredited with no letter grade, and its Houzz page shows a single project and a badge but no reviews at all yet. For a hardscape project or a bigger lawn rebuild, the history here leans favorable, and John Belko himself is named directly as responsive in more than one account. Given the recent topsoil complaint, it's worth asking what fill or loam they source for a job like hydroseeding and how they check it beforehand, and worth confirming how they handle liability if a truck or crew causes property damage.

Very disappointed in the quality of the loom that was put down for the hydroseed to grown. Pieces of glass, metal etc. Wonder why it didn't take. Subcontracted the w9rk to someone else and this is what you get. Total disappointment. Reputation ruined.

Had John come over and give me a quote for a new walkway along with veneer steps and granite treads at the front of my house. I thought the quote was reasonable and moved forward with the proposal. Maegan in the office was easy to work with and communicated with me the entire time when they’d be able to start. Once they did, the two man crew of Kevin and Leo did an amazing job. They were there first thing every morning and worked well beyond the sunset (in November). They kept asking along the way if I was happy with how it was progressing, which I really appreciated…and once they left, they did an amazing job with cleanup as well. An easy 5 out of 5 for me.

This company is dishonorable, don't use them. The had one of their trucks ejecting a bunch of hard material from the bed while heading on 93 north. This lack of bed cleanliness after a job led to my brand new car getting damaged. They (and their insurance) refuse to take any accountability for their carelessness. Two lessons learned 1) this company is dishonorable 2) ALWAYS keep a camera running so you can keep people accountable - because they sure as hell won't do it on their own

We hired Belko Landscaping to help us out with our yard, irrigation system, and to plant some privacy trees—and they absolutely crushed it. Our lawn was in rough shape, with patchy grass, areas torn up from animal activity, and they turned it around completely. The crew was fantastic—super friendly, showed up on time, and clearly knew their stuff. During the first walkthrough, they gave us honest, helpful recommendations about what actually needed to be done and what we could skip. You could tell they really cared about doing a quality job, and it showed in the results. No surprises, no stress—just solid work and great communication throughout. They even followed up afterward to make sure everything was settling in well. Highly recommend Belko if you're looking for reliable, professional landscaping help.
