Auburndale Builders is a Newton-based home builder that's built its whole business around high-performance, energy-efficient construction — new homes, additions, and historic retrofits, not quick single-trade jobs. It holds an active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license (#151846), and BBB records show it incorporated in January 2011 and carry an A+ letter grade. The company says Nick Falkoff, in construction since 1999, runs the shop, and that its work spans Boston and the MetroWest. The online history is small but consistent: a 4.7-star average across a dozen Google ratings and 4.1 from nine on Houzz, with reviewers describing dependable project management on multi-year, multi-project relationships rather than one-off repairs — the kind of homeowner who hires them once and comes back for a second renovation years later. No negative reviews turned up across Google, Houzz, or BBB in this look, and the company's credentials go deeper than the review counts: PHIUS Passive House certification, an NAHB Certified Green Professional credential, and an Angie's List Super Service Award every year from 2006 through 2014. One thing worth asking about: Auburndale Builders isn't a BBB Accredited Business despite the A+ grade — accreditation there is a separate, optional step the company hasn't taken. And with only a handful of ratings on the major sites, there's more consistency here than volume, so a couple of direct references from a similarly scaled project are worth requesting. This fits homeowners planning a substantial renovation, addition, or new build who care about energy performance and are ready for a longer, more involved process — less so someone after a small, single-trade fix. Confirm the license is still current and ask for recent references before committing to a project at this scale.

Auburndale Builders has completed two major renovations of our home in the past five years, and both experiences were excellent. The renovated spaces look and function beautifully—exactly as we envisioned. Our project manager was extremely dependable: communicated updates timely, managed every detail seamlessly, and worked with urgency to stay on schedule. Everyone on Auburndale’s extended team—including their subcontractors—is responsible and easy to work with. They are a rare combination of skilled professionals and kind people that care about their work and, most importantly, their client’s satisfaction. We recommend them to anyone in our community who asks us for a referral.

Auburndale is a pleasure to work with, from the leadership team all way through the organization. I have only had great experience working with Nick and the team.

We have completed two major remodeling projects with Auburndale Builders and had a wonderful experience both times. The first was complete remodeling of our basement, the second was remodeling of multiple rooms including all bathrooms in a 150 year old house, They are extremely well-organized and professional (according to our designer, one of the best contractors she has ever worked with). Expectations are clear from the beginning of the preconstruction process and their level of communication is excellent. Their budget process is very transparent and they make a strong effort to stick to their estimates and give options for cutting costs when needed. They are experts in modern "green" building and we have received a ton of advice from them on how we can best modernize our old house while preserving its character. Their own staff (project managers and carpenters) are very experienced and very good at their jobs. They are extremely detail-oriented and their work is always high quality. They also use very dependable, high quality subcontractors and they work closely with them to ensure that their work meets expectations. We have been ecstatic about the work they've done in our home and would recommend them without reservation. Aside from the work, we can put in a good word for the integrity and humanity of the people who work for Auburndale. From the ownership to the office staff, they are genuinely kind and caring people and we have really enjoyed working with them and getting to know them. They have always gone the extra mile to make sure we are happy and comfortable with how the project is going. Whenever we have had an issue they have bent over backwards to correct it. We love working with them and we look forward to more projects with them in the future!

We bought a house that required major updating and Auburndale was so lovely to work with. They took care of us from start to finish, are very transparent, and very environmentally conscious. Also everyone is really nice!! It was a great experience working with them. Our house went from dark and drafty to filled with light and climate friendly. We love our house!!
