A-Z Chimney Sweeps & Repairs is a small, veteran-owned chimney company working the North Shore and Merrimack Valley. Its own site gives Haverhill as its base and claims over 50 years of experience; Angi and HomeAdvisor put it in Danvers with 41 years, and the Better Business Bureau — matching it on the phone number — records a Danvers address, a single employee, and a start date of February 2010. Those three tenures do not agree, so treat the long-experience claim as the company's own.
The reviewed record is real and mostly good: 4.6 stars from 75 ratings on both Angi and HomeAdvisor, 85% of them five-star. The work described spans the whole trade — sweeping and inspection, stainless liners and caps, waterproofing, wood-stove and pellet-stove flues, and full chimney rebuilds. A 2021 customer had two chimneys rebuilt and caps fitted, one crumbling above the furnace and one pulling away from the house, and named Dan, Brett and John as the crew. A 2023 customer's pellet-stove flue was cleaned on an earlier-than-scheduled visit, with the crew staying until the stove ran properly and the price matching the quote with no additions. A 2022 reviewer said an inspection found the liner needed replacing rather than the cleaning they had asked for — read that either way, but the same reviewer scored it five stars.
The complaint on file is serious and recent, and it is about the same product. In April 2026 a customer alleged that a stainless flex liner fitted for a pellet stove was used rather than new, that they were charged for a new one, and that on removing the stove they found the liner cut into three pieces; they called the company thieves. That is one unverified allegation against 75 mostly excellent ratings, but it is the newest thing on the record and it concerns liner work, which is a large part of what this firm sells.
They are a credible call for chimney cleaning, inspection and liner or cap work on the North Shore. Ask for the liner's product documentation and warranty in writing before installation, get the quote confirmed in writing, and confirm which address and entity you are contracting with given the Haverhill/Danvers split.

“I just had a great experience with A-Z Chimney. I had Master build come out to put a liner in one of my flues and they put in a flexible dryer vent in and scammed me out of $5000. Stay away from Masterbuild and or Mike Purcell just a scammer. A-z came in put everything in took pictures of everything for me, cleaned up and painted chimney. Can't say enough about them.”
They put in a stainless steel flex liner for a pellet stove, it was used and they charged me for a new one. We recently found this out because we removed the pellet stove and we saw the liner was cut in 3 pieces which is unacceptable. I would not recommend these thieves to anyone.
I could not recommend Brett and A-Z Chimney more. Not only do they do quality work that they stand by, but they're also just genuinely good guys. I recently sustained blasting damage to my 2022 chimney that A-Z did the work on back then. The company that caused the damage got away with not having to pay a penny. Brett really helped me out on the cost of fixing the chimney damage. He even went above and beyond and hammered back down and water sealed the nail pops from my house settling from the blasting, which were causing additional water damage. Quality work, quality people!!
Very professional. Actually wound up letting me know they could come earlier than the scheduled appointment time. When they arrived, assessed the issue with my pellet stove and cleaned out the flue pipe immediately. They were well prepared and quickly did their work. After cleaning the flue they waited until the stove was running properly. The price for the service was as quoted with no additional charges. Very satisfied.
